This video spoke to me in so many ways! We have moved house this year so my embroidery projects went on hold and now I have a massive pile of them - in several stages of finished, including still in the packaging 😆I love your mention of them taking up space in the cupboard and a decluttering mindset to it has spurred me on to pick up projects I started yonks ago and am absolutely loving it and wondering why I have left them so long. I also love your dont unpick approach, I picked this up from one of your videos a while ago and it is probably the most useful bit of advice I have learnt about embroidery - I very rarely unpick my stictches, and pretty much 99% of the time I end up at least liking what I do by the end and always learn so much from it, rather than unpicking and trying to make it what I think is perfect. One of my favourite things to do with my free time is sit and stitch whilst watching your videos (but not in order, hence why I am just watching this one now!) Thank you ☺

Thank you Sarah, your explanations are very clear and helpful. I enjoy watching your videos and have learned a lot about embroidery I didn't know previously. A question I have is regarding calico backing. When one buys a meter of it should you launder it first before using as a backing? Kathy Daley in New Zealand

Hi Sarah I'm sure you have it somewhere- but I need to know all about the set up of your fabirc (and fabric type) on your clamped stretcher bars !! I'm a absolute beginner and need the most basic of basics! Someday I hope to be able to get to these trees, but for now just the very basics. Please and thanks if you could leave a link for me! Blessings!

Oh thank you for this excellent tutorial and the free download! I want to monogram my blue jeans and a few other things. The cloth on the back with stabilizer will help on sweaters. ❤ from Canada.

I never know what I like more...the art of doing a hobby or the collecting of the supplies because that in -and-of-itself is a hobby lol..

Due to vision problems, using a stand is not possible for me. I do always use a hoop however. It looks goofy when I stitch because my nose is about 3 inches from the fabric. I read, watch videos, etc, the same way. We all do what we have to do!

Yes! I started out with the mindset of "finish what you start... and choose what you start carefully." If I can't see what I'm going to do with it afterwards, I set it aside, even if it'll be really cool looking when it's done. I have limited space so I can't just go haring off willy-nilly after everything I want to do. Most of what I finish doesn't stick around as they become gifts or I sell them. I just don't have the room to keep everything and I have other hobbies like macramé, kumihimo, and silversmithing, so the room I DO have has to be shared with other arts. Fortunately, this one takes up less space than most of my other hobbies and can share supplies with the kumihimo (big relief there).

What a pleasure to watch! Lovely! And I learned how some basic stitches can be used in beautiful ways such as the chain stich leaves on the grape hyacinth! 🌺🌹🏵🌻 Did you know that sometimes I watch your videos not only to learn, but to also help me destress? 😊 I do have one question: did you use pearl embroidery floss for any of these flowers, or simply stranded cotton? I am asking because the sheen reflecting off the thread on some of the flowers.

Hi Sara. I was just revisiting your old video on using an embroidery frame (I still haven’t figured out how to use mine!). What type of needle were you using to attaché the thread from the herringbone tape to the frame? I’ve never seen one of those. Also, do you ship to the US? Thanks for your wonderful, informative and entertaining videos! It’s the next best thing to going to the Royal School of Needlework!

I have been agonising over this for decades! You’ve cleared up all the uncertainty I’ve had and why my stem stitch looks a bit weird sometimes. I thought I must be crazy or some kind of perfectionist because no one ever talks about this. I haven’t been able to find the answer until now. A million heartfelt thank you’s. 💜💜💜💜💜

Hello from Australia again Sarah loved this vidio (I do love all your vidios though) and you have re-ignited my love of embroidery that I was first taught by my Mum x Nana when I was 4 or 5 x I'm so enjoying it so thanku so much for that. I have used beads a lot but even though I have heaps of sequins I've never used them as was unsure of the best ways to use them x the best methods to sew them down so now you have inspired me x I'm going to try to use some of my many sequins I've collected over the yrs. They really have been sitting around for many yrs, some for over 30yrs x they came for the most part in packs of mixed craft supplies I get at our op shops sometimes wich I always grab when I see any cos even if I don't use the items in these packs right away I do eventualy find ways to use everything I collect but I've collected lots of my craft supplies this way. I've always wondered if other lady's do this aswell or am I just strange to collect stuff x keep it for yrs before I eventualy use it?.. anyway thanku once more for another great informative x inspiring vidio!..

I've just taken up embroidery, having not done anything like this since junior school, when it was the only craft girls did! I have learnt so much from watching your videos, and now I'm going to make a needle book to sort and store my needles. Whilst watching your video of making a needle book, I suddenly remembered my mother's sewing box, which included a 1 page red felt needle holder, a bit raggety, but made by one of my older sisters when they were in junior school. Very long forgotten memory ❤
