I'm a beginner at hand embroidery and originally a beader doing different techniques including bead embroidery. The possibility of mixing hand embroidery stitches with beads is really exciting for me and I think I'm going to have a lot of fun. Your videos are so helpful and entertaining, thank you for that!

BUGLE BEADS are very sharp on the ends and will cut your thread. Most other beads have polished edges/holes. When I use bugle beads I will thread a seed bead on either end on the same strand and couch, this protects the thread.

Not really a problem if you aren't wearing the beadwork.

I did some bead work today while sitting with my mom. Wish I had watched your video for additional ideas. I love adding beads to slow stitching.

Well that’s sorted it, I’m getting my beads out this evening 😊. The beads look so pretty, I must admit I have a fair few myself ☺️, thank you Sarah 💕

I have a very thin bead reamer which I use to use to grind the ends off the bugle beads just to smooth the sharp edge, it’s used to widen the holes on natural pearls in jewellery making. I have so much in the way of seed beads as well as natural gemstone. I don’t do as much jewellery making like I use to as I have gotten back into my embroidery work as well as dress making so I have invested in sequence’s ranging from 2mm up to 6mm as well as spangles not to be mistaken for sequins. It’s nice when one hobby can be used with other hobbies. When I made quilts I used embroidery and beads and much more into my appliqué quilts. I was never one for following the normal patterns in quilting lol. Many of the quilt block swaps I would join back in the 90’s they all ended up being mounted into frames by the people I swapped blocks with as the hated the thought of my blocks getting worn over time 😹😹. I think it’s time I went back to finishing my few appliqué quilts. I enjoyed my time in jewellery making but it’s so limiting as to what you can do and make, the items that I have designed over the years people are just not willing to pay the price that I’m asking so the sit and collect dust because I’m not willing to just give them away considering they are all one of a kind with hundreds of hours put into making them. One day when I get my website backup and running I might to put them on my website maybe one day someone will love them enough to pay what I’m asking lol. At least my beads won’t go to waste now that I’m back to doing my style of embroidery work, forgot how much I loved doing it.

Thank you Sarah and Jonathan for your video and sharing the ways we can use beads. I have a lot of beads from when I used to make jewellery so you have given me a while load of new ideas. I am off to the bead stash now for a rummage.

Thank you. I tried this on my own and I was using the embroidery thread and it didn't look as neat as yours. Thank you for the lessons. I am just starting out in the embroidery world. I am a quilter/bag maker. The 2 worlds mingle very nicely. I am also LEFT HANDED. The video you produce is very helpful. I struggle to follow verbal /written instruction. Your video is great.

Hello Sarah, I just watched this video and thought that you might show the audience how to edge stitch a dimensional ornament incorporating seed beads into the blanket stitch. It makes quite a stunning effect that can be backlit quite beautifully on a Christmas tree or garland strung with lights. After all, the holiday season fast approaches. Cheers, Lili, Sultan, WA 🇺🇸

I've tried the invisible thread. The problem is that you can't see it very well to keep track of it or even to know if it's knotting on the back. I much prefer to use the same color thread.
