@dackselectronicrepair28 күн бұрын
I have found that you it is better to just do the motherboard side. It has the foam walls that make sure it doesn't leak onto any other components when resandwiching the cooler back on. Everything stays where it should. I do make sure the cooling pad side does not have an oxidation on it so it transfers the heat properly.

It would be vastly easier and require a lot less heat if you were to solder-wick most of the existing stuff out after mixing with leaded solder Also, it seems safer and less labor to once the old port is out, to wick all the old solder away. clean, then re-flux the pads, and run over with leaded solder to tin them. Drop the new port on top, legs still empty, and hot-air the port until it snaps into place with the tinned pads This prep and new tinning of fresh leaded solder will minimize the chance that you end up with a bunch of loose connections as you aren't missing half the solder taken away on the old port, too. Lastly, hand-solder the legs now that the pins are connected. Check for loose connections and bridging
@dackselectronicrepairАй бұрын
Yes you can do all these extra steps if you desire. I have found that adding solder back to the pads is enough to make the new ones stick just fine without using a solder wick. Tinning the legs of the new port is something that can be helpful.

@dackselectronicrepair2 ай бұрын
Not sure what you mean by warming up the cpu but no you do not need to heat anything to replace the thermal paste. Yes the majority of GPUs are like this. They are just a board with the processor chip and ram attached to a heat sink. Some use passive cooling (no fan) or active cooling (fan or liquid cooling block). The thermal paste transfers the heat from the chips to the heat sink so it can be dispersed.

I've done this 4 times, two were successful, and the other two I ended up melting the underside of the analog stick...what am I doing wrong?
@dackselectronicrepair3 ай бұрын
It really is a time sensitive repair. You have to get all solder in all the legs heated up at the same time so you can basically just drop the new stick into place and remove the heat right away. If you leave the hot air going for too long after you put the new stick in place you will melt the underside of it. A little melting won't hurt anything but too much will make it not work.
