Love your reaction but this is NOT a Christmas movie. If it were set in a sports stadium would it be a sports movie? If it were set in an amusement park would it be a family movie? If it were set in a beach resort would it be a romance movie? Christmas movie -- ridiculous.

Imho Die Hard is 100% a Christmas movie. It takes place on Christmas Eve, John is trying to get back to his family on Christmas, There are Christmas songs throughout, there is a Christmas tree and presents on the 30th floor, There are references to Christmas throughout the movie, etc.

If that were a solid gold idol, it would have weighed a hell of a lot more than that sandbag. Hell, even if it was hollow probably.

When people saw the trailer to Die Hard in the theaters they Laughed because they thought Bruce Willis was a Wimp and the studio took his face off of most movie posters and Ads! Then the movie generated word of mouth buzz and made 141 million dollars on a 28.5 million budget! 😎 He ( Willis) was the Likable “Everyman” as John McClane and his presence didn’t necessarily solidify the film but didn’t RUIN It!

8:54 It's easy to miss (and most people do misunderstand it) but he's not looking at her window because she's half dressed and in shape, he's looking because she's -on the phone-, which tells him that it's the building thats phone lines aren't working, not a problem affecting the area. And obviously, it's not Xmas until Hans Gruber falls off of Nakatomi Plaza.

When they shot the scene when Hans fell, Rickman wasn't expecting them to let him go. His surprised face is very real.

He wouldn't be there if it weren't for Christmas. The heist was planned for Christmas, and Die Hard 2 is Christmas, too. The Fifth Element: Add it to your Wathch list and put it on a poll, not just for Bruce but for a stacked cast. Merry Christmas

18:44 Fun fact: That gun was suppose to hold on long enough for Bruce to make that leap, but it was mis-timed. That was a legit fall, and for the pure luck of Bruce grabbing onto that other ledge, they decided to keep it in the film. Great reaction, Alyska, and Merry Christmas!

You don't need to talk so much. Reactions can be read in facial expressions, laughter, sadness, etc. You keep arguing with the movie, it's kind of annoying.

You are totally right about everything that makes it a Christmas movie, but there are sooo many more reasons why as well. First off, it is about family coming together, (John, his wife and children,) along with the friendships we make along the way. It is also about miracles...showing how they can be good and bad. Hans wished for the money, and by a miracle he got the money, but that led to his downfall. McClane, on the other hand, wished to help those in need, when he really didn't have to, and by a miracle he was able to survive everything that was thrown at him and save the ones that 'deserved' saving. (Ellis was Judas. Mr. Takagi...well...we don't know much about him really, but he did allow drugs to be used openly and freely, as well as having expensive suits, so considering everything, we can assume that he was probably someone who overall cared more about money than anything else...but regardless, it was necessary to show that McClane is unable to save everyone.) It also relates how commercial Christmas has become, where greed has sadly overtaken everything...pretty much a look into the future our world has become. Then there are TONS of little hidden details scattered all over the place, the most obvious being his wife's name...Holly...a direct reference to the holiday. Personally, I consider this possibly the most 'true' Christmas movie ever made and can't understand how anyone could argue it isn't one, but each person does have their own definition of what something qualifies as to them...
@mitchellmelkin4078Күн бұрын
@DieHard0, I'm not at all sure there's much reason to paint Takagi as a bad actor. While he probably wasn't taken by surprise in witnessing Ellis doing cocaine, he strikes me as a responsible corporate higher-up who cared about his employees (if you can accept such a person existing that is). I don't think he was stonewalling Hans about the code though he probably didn't believe his life would be forfeit when he didn't provide the information.

Whether this is a Christmas movie or not should not be a controversy. It has Christmas music, it takes place on Christmas eve, during a Christmas party. It even has a Santa Claus. If you don't think it's a Christmas movie, you are wearing blinders. This is not an opinion. It's fact. Take your blinders off and join the rest of us in reality

So glad you liked it! I initially would have said it wasn’t a Christmas movie, because I think of Christmas movies as much more wholesome with a lot less violence. But I’ve cone around on it because Christmas is an interval part of the plot. Now I watch this every year, and it isn’t really Christmas until I get to watch Hans Gruber falling off of Nakatomi Plaza.

All the Spaceballs merchandise you see in the movie were done as a joke to George Lucas. Lucas gave his 'ok' for the movie as he was a fan of Mel Brooks movies, but on the condition that there wouldn't be merchandise for it, like action figures for example. Mel Brooks said the reason Lucas gave him was that "if I made toys of my Spaceballs characters they would look a lot like Star Wars action figures and that would be a no-no for his lawyers and his studio’s business affairs department."

Slight tweeks to the script can make it take place any time of year or for any holiday. Heck, they could have made it take place during a company anniversary, so no, it's not a Christmas movie and it can't be made a Christmas movie by sheer force of will or wishful thinking.
