I agree, the way the story goes it shows James understanding that what he did was horrible and learning to live with and overcome his guilt, especially when he confront Pyramid Head right after that, so the Leave ending fits perfectly.

The original Silent Hill 2 is my favorite video game of all time and this remake more than did it justice. For me, this is now tied with Resident Evil (2002) as the greatest video game remake.

I like what you said after the scene of Mary’s death. The hotel changes into run down instead of being beautiful. This could be a perception in James mind. Like people naturally shift through emotions because we are not robots. At one point you can be happy and carefree living in a beautiful place and in the next moment it can look like hell. I like how James pushes forward in the game to uncover the truth regardless of his perception.

James is personally my favorite protagonist. Harry is a close second, but I like Harry for very different reasons. James is the most human Silent Hill protagonist. There are those that hate him, and there are those that forgive him. Either way, you cannot deny that he is human. He has redeemable qualities that you like about him, but he (clearly) has some bad ones. Some would even say they're unforgiveable. Either way, you will remember James. Its such a contrast to Harry Mason, who is just a good person caught in the middle of a terrible situation. Or a hornball if you're playing Shattered Memories lol...

I looked up endings. I think James is in a purgatory and not an actual town. You hinted at this in your video. Some people say Leave is not true ending because he gets back to the car and starts cycle over again. In another ending he is seen looking back talking to his backseat and letter is in water maybe he is dead here? Again hinting at this game runs in a cycle. Like he is trapped in some other world. The letter he got was sent to him after Maria’s death. And the second letter is him uncovering the truth but I think there may not really be a second letter.
