that's a REALLY good point that people project THEIR opinion of what THEY think we "should" be onto us.. it's affected my life badly at so many times, especially when I've felt pressured by people into not building up what i felt i wanted to do in my life, i lost so many things i wanted to do just to try to please others.. it sucks
@CastleHassall3 сағат бұрын
ok I'll try to do what you suggest but it could get awkward as i am white.. but I'll tell any angry people that you told me to be that this'll really help me, to have something i can feel proud about thanks. I've always really struggled with feeling I'm bad to feel proud of myself thanks for encouraging us to feel good about who we are in life, I've always been ostracised by mainstream heavy drinking society round here as i think and i am good hearted to everyone and they don't like that

To be real Rom, this is one of the hugest feats that a BM can face, not just because of the external racism, but the intra-racial strife. Even as someone like myself who wouldn't categorize himself as a "nerd" but has the "tendencies" of one, I had contentious clashes with "the community", adults within schools, and even with so-called "family". I'm still at the point that if I hear the word "nerd" from certain black people, I equate that to being called a hard "~er". Not that I haven't avoided this challenge, but TBH, body game/gym maxing is mentally easier than being a BM who even has "nerd" tendencies. Hell, I'd imagine being in the military would be less taxing. But nonetheless, it's a path that does have its rewards and benefits.

Mr clutch it's good seeing you here, cuz you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. Uncle Ron brought up women of other races saying you're different. Thing is, other races of women say you're different in a good way, or in a very interested type of way. Black woman will say you're different in a bad way. Or that's how they see it at least.

Honestly, really think about it. Who do people pay attention to more, someone who is like everyone else, or someone who does their own thing? Notice how everyone tries to make you like them, but when you don't want to, people dislike it.

Can’t tell you how many times someone has told me my look does not fit my intelligence or personality. I know they might think it’s a compliment but in my mind I’m thinking “so intelligence has a look 🤔”. Good video tho unc 💯

Society aspires to push black men away from their intellectual/nerdy interests. These forces happen within our own community and outside of it, I can say that I was once a victim of this. It’s sad because once you study black history you see that education is a foundational aspect of our being. Hell, the public school system exists in the south because of black people during the reconstruction era. Learning is who we are, and we must regain that lost spirit. Thank you Unc.

The most egregious insult is the term “you talk white”. And unfortunately I’ve witnessed more blacks use that phrase than anyone else. If you display any type of intelligence, class, decorum, etc you’re seen as an imposter. Being black and smart or black without fitting a stereotype are qualities that many think should not coexist. Personally I’m a nerd but I’m a nerd with sauce lol 💯

Nerd culture is so big now that if you were a nerd you are winning. Oprah was talking about One Piece on Netflix, yet how many people knew about One Piece when it was just a local morning cartoon show 20 years ago?

In STEM, love anime, read manga, like video game, a homebody, gets excited over conversations about science fiction...i was an outsider in my own community. I used to get teased for it but people were also impressed by my way of life and my interests because they were always unusual and counter to the norm. Add lightskinned to all of the above and you have the perfect storm of trolling.

Hey Unc, hope you doin good. I’d like to get some advice, im struggling with academics, i first enrolled for Computer Science I found very difficult and I didn’t like it so I changed to Engineering the following year. Now I’m good with Computer Science and I don’t want to do Engineering. I regret moving from Computer Science, don’t want to embarrass my mother as well for switching to something I first did again( I don’t care about what my friends say). I don’t feel right living with the fact that I quit something because it was hard and left my dream college, I really want to try it again. I’m turning 21 this year, what do you advise Uncle Rom?🥲

There was a popular black business podcast, over time it devolved into an "ancient knowledge" channel. They kept bringing on a dude with a fez, the man stated that water was an element, lol. Also, I noticed the pimp terms he was using. Our people ate it up. I unsubbed. It was sad to see, a respected channel about business become such silliness.

Everyone just talks, that's why I honestly don't take hardly anyone seriously. Also why I don't get offended by the nonsense coming out of their mouth. I know it means nothing to me. My reality is so much different.
