@MEGAthemicro The premise was that you were a survivor of a crash plane atvthe begining of the zombie apocalypse, and a small group of survivors from a school of Texas rescued. You couldn't get infected, and need to lead expeditions for supplies, items to improve the shelter and more survivors. You had to take decissions between the factions of your allies (for keep the mood), bands of bikers, looters, the army... but no option for ally, only try to get out of their business, and prepare to escape from there before the endgame moment.

@MEGAthemicro18 күн бұрын
Thanks, do you mean the MEGA score at the end? I have that on a 5-point scale to be consistent with my micrometrics (the 15 mini-scores I use to review a game). I used to have everything on a 10-point scale but found it too hard to differentiate between, for example, a 3/10 and a 4/10. The 5-point scale, meanwhile, is easier for me to use and therefore helps me remain consistent across games.

This review is, from my perspective, perfect. You hit the nail on the head with the bland story, sadly they did literally nothing with the oil and went all out political story, which is bad af since they promoted oil so much. Also the mega city clutter comment feels pretty on point, I do not want to look at my city up close, because all that awaits me is clipping district buildings into streets, each other, and special buildings- But the sound is great. The exploration feels left in the dust tho, as there are no beautiful pictures anymore when you find something, just a little header up top, that repeats more than in FP1 endless. It's also weird how tech works in FP2, apparently the random automatons running around don't cost steamcores and hothouses require fertile soil now. There s nothing new steampnuk or even dieselpunk since it includes oil now. Overall I'd say they had a lot of potential and wasted it on a generic bland but for a few hours acceptable city builder.
@MEGAthemicroАй бұрын
Glad you liked the review! And thanks for your detailed thoughts, they all resonate with me, especially your observation about how the giant automatons just kinda pop up and have no bearing on your steamcores - seems like the devs just threw them in because they looked cool, not because they made any sense.

Similar gameplay mechanics (same heavy emphasis on tactical combat), near-identical UI, slightly better graphics, arguably better soundtrack. It really boils down to whether you liked Gladius and want to see its gameplay implemented in a new world.
@adelahogarth2761Ай бұрын
I don't necessarily see the idea of visitors to your curia as necessarily all that bad when they tell you of far-off secrets of a hidden world that you'll never really experience. In essence it sums up precisely that you are not an adventurer, you are not a troubled scholar on the fringes of acceptable social graces, you are not a rogue living on the edges of society as a permanent exile on the threshold of unknown shores. You now belong to one. As you ask people for help, that in turn become your livelihood and means to be a purveyor and preserver of knowledge--Not its source, and hopefully never its end. I don't think you could truly encapsulate the idea of being 'that librarian' while also having a pseudo minigame of traipsing elsewhere. You feel like one of those monks off medieval Ireland that was basically responsible for managing to keep 'the lore' of Latin works and old philosophers alive against all manner of raiders, banditry, and the corrosive touch of time itself. Of whom without them spending literally their entire lives in their cloisters constantly copying and re-copying works of antiquity at places like Skellig Michael, history itself would have been very different. It's kind of overwhelming already for a new player that doesn't know the system as well, and adding a new mini-system on top that players might feel they 'need to do' I think would have impacted game feel. You have the Hush House, you have books, you have stuff you can craft, and skills and esoteric lore to unlock as to maximize your utility to an esoteric occult society dedicated to invisible arts of arcane and transcendental worlds. in those regards I think it captured that sense of being quite well. While I personally don't think it needed some automatic journal, as it's a game focussed on the invisible arts and it would be kind of crutch just being able to look up in a within-game clickable bunch of trees to remember how you did something... But I totally agree about the UI. Also the size of the world map ... that you inevitably have to take a calming open-form RPG and spend so much time then scrolling all about the place, necessarily having to zoom in and out to feather over stuff. Cultist simulator, while daunting and clustered with information late-game, had largely all the information you needed and the stuff you needed to do right in front of you. Did the bridge need to be that long? Did the village so spread out? The beach so big? And now with the expansion, this entirely new thing all out on the outer edge of the screen. It doesn't help that so many rooms feel less like milestones each packed with new possible combinations, and more like game padding that 'demands your attention' in a way that I don't think helps with the idea of trying to capture a 'calm game of being a librarian'. Librarians and archivists shouldn't feel the desperate need to also triple as occult society event organizers, cartographers, and renovators. I don't necessarily disagree with the idea of 'building out the Hush House' ... but I think I would have preferred more a focus on the Hush House and being a librarian and archivist and less having to zoo over the village, while taking strolls on the beach, and strolling into the woods, while having dinner at the inn, while weeding the courtyards.
@MEGAthemicroАй бұрын
Wow, nice comment! As you've eloquently noted, the gameplay does a great job of realizing the developer's vision of lonely, occult librarian life. Is it what I personally wanted from this game? Not entirely, no, but I can still respect the commitment.

Been looking forward to this ever since it was announced, but I'm a bit bummed they didn't add more diplomacy or non-combat options. I mean, Gladius is fun as heck and all with the constant warfare and the publisher is well known for their war simulators, but it would be fun with another layer of gameplay to interact with. How's the perfomance or turn times? Some games in this genre towards the end can take a really long time between turns. Also, how's the AI when it comes to certain unit spam? In Gladius I wish I had a option to disable flying units because holy heck the AI makes waaaay too many of them and they're such a hassle to deal with.
@MEGAthemicroАй бұрын
Agreed, the game is currently short a few non-combat features. As for performance, I think the game is generally stable. A single crash and some small bugs over 20 hours. The turn time can get a little long in the tooth starting around late mid-game. However, you can turn up animation speeds to comically fast levels, making AI turns fly by. I felt like I saw a decent variety of enemies during my time with the game. Some faction feel a bit spammy, but nothing unplayable.
