Wisconsin: 5 trout salmon in total Browns 10” min Only can keep 2 over 15” Rainbows min 26 Only can keep one And I whole heartedly agree with it. I think Browns breed better and I think they taste better. Rainbows I’d rather see a lot of them than keep a lot of them. I’ve also fished in Indiana, Trail/Salt creek. Minimum salmon/trout 7” I really don’t catch nice trout between 12”-26”. I feel like the population is decimated from poor regulations. I think those regulations in Michigan promote world class fisheries. 20” minimum honestly seems generous to me!

I'll be trying this is a month or two but i think I'll add a couple drops of liquid smoke. Wish i was more experienced with cold smoking, maybe I'll give that a shot this winter.

Freeze them in water, fill a sandwich bag with fish fillets, add water and then as you're sealing the bad squeeze out all the air until just water is coming over the seal area and complete the seal. No water at all and frozen suspended in ice. I use to vacuum pack mine but you'll eventually get freezer burn, even when they are vacuum packed. I've seen frozen in water last 10 years. If you catch Lake trout, don't ever freeze them or else they'll taste like crap, unless you smoke them first. Always eat Lakers as soon as you can or smoke them if you want to freeze them. Good example of filleting the bluegill, most people cut short of the head meat but you got it all. How you filleted the gill was exactly how I do it. I'll remove the pin bones on crappie but I normally leave them in on gills unless its a 9 to 10 incher, most 10 inchers go back.
@outdoorbelievin525921 күн бұрын
Good info...Thanks for watching...I see to many people wasting alot of good meat when they fillet Bluegill or panfish in general. How long does it usually take to thaw them out when you freeze them with the water with them?
@westmichiganfishing961321 күн бұрын
@outdoorbelievin5259 I normally take the frozen bag out and just place it in the sink to thaw. If you want to eat them sooner run water on them. You can speed it up more by tearing the bag off the ice block and focus the water in between the fish pieces. I like to eat pike fresh and not freeze it. For salmon, I vacuum pack or ziplock without water as it is normally consumed sooner or makes it on the smoker. I'll be salmon fishing out of Muskegon this Sunday, there's a bunch of small kings all up and down the coast with some nice cohos showing up.
@outdoorbelievin525921 күн бұрын
Awesome...thanks for the info...as for the salmon showing up that's great. I'm hoping to get out soon for salmon as well...any info on how deep they are finding them?
@westmichiganfishing961321 күн бұрын
@@outdoorbelievin5259 I got all mine in 65 FOW. However, I heard the big ones might be offshore in the deeper water. Weather is looking great for Sunday, minimal waves predicted, as of now. The Tournament Trail/333 is in Grand Haven this weekend so avoid that port, unless you want to do the 333! Probably fine to fish out of Grand Haven, it was just be busier than normal.

We eat rockbass up here and prepare them just like you would a gill or crappie, if the water is really warm mid summer soak them in a little bit of salt water overnight in the fridge the meat firms right back up!

Should try a fly rod for bedded gills. Floating spiders for surface bites or sinking ants if they aren't hitting that. So much fun on a light weight rod.

Nice Rig! If you primarily fish for walleye, then I am not sure if Livescope is worth the $1800 investment. If you fish other species, like smallmouth on LSC, or Crappie, then I believe it is well worth the investment!
