I have to agree that it sucks for there to be little real reason to learn other languages when you already know English. Especially when people from other countries make fun of us for it. And _especially_ as this leans into classism. When you're rich so you can travel the world, then yes, it helps to speak the languages of the countries you're going to --- but when you're poor, there's not a lot of reason, and you're made fun of for that, which is really just making fun of you for a side-effect of being poor, making it hilarious that the main people who tend to do this are middle-class communist Americans. They would _never_ make fun of poor people --- just the symptoms of being poor... so, just making fun of poor people. I literally only learn languages because of interest and I enjoy learning about different cultures and ways of thinking. There's no practical reason, and the average person who isn't autistic likes practical reasons. We're no better than anyone else imo just for being able to speak languages we likely will never use.
