The New York state parks look beautiful. I really haven't done much hiking in New York besides visiting Watkins Glen. It's a spot I'd like to see more of. For Glacier, be aware that they are requiring a timed entry pass for certain hours in the summer for Going to the Sun Road - www.nps.gov/glac/learn/news/glacier-national-park-announces-a-timed-entry-vehicle-reservation-pilot-for-2025.htm. You will want to drive that, it is beautiful. Also, look into the glacier park boats. We did a boat tour to Two Medicine and then did a short hike to the twin falls. You can get off the boat to hike or stay on and relax.

New York (my home state!) has so many beautiful areas to explore - Catskills, Adirondacks, Finger Lakes, Hudson Valley. I really love traveling there. Thanks for the tips on Glacier! I heard about the timed entry for Going To The Sun road - which we definitely want to do so thanks for the link! Hadn't heard about the boats, though - sounds great! Thanks for the recs!

I loved our buddy read! We definitely need to do it again sometime! I'm going to put The Briar Club on hold on audio. As I said in our chat, I've never listened to Kate Quinn before, but I've read her. I'm not surprised that her books make good audiobooks.

I enjoyed The Diamond Eye, too - another one that was good on audio (same narrator). There are a few Easter eggs in The Briar Club that refer back to her other books, including a discussion of Russia using women as snipers and tank drivers during WWII.

Ooo, Sue, you sucked me in again! My current audiobook is quite short, so I just checked out The Briar Club on Hoopla as a follow up. It sounds great! My current audiobook is a non-fiction titled "Ejaculate Responsibly" (recommended via Reading with a Vengeance in her Top 12 Books of 2024 ). I find myself arguing out loud with it a fair amount, but it's definitely thought provoking. Next on the docket (now knocked down to "after The Briar Club") is a sort-of Amish murder mystery "Sworn to Silence." I've got a couple long car trips this weekend, so I hope to simply sound bathe in audiobooks. Have a good one!

That sounds like a great plan, Debbie! Road trips are great for audio. We're planning two month-long road trips for 2025, so we'll have to pile on the audio books! No worries about Invisalign! I didn't hear any lisping! I think my kids' retainers are essentially invisalign and I can't even see when they are wearing theirs. I finished Writers and Lovers last night and can't wait to discuss it all with you! I don't think I'm necessarily a faster reader, but I think I might have more time to read. I'm always willing to sacrifice things like housework for reading (as you could very easily see if you were at my house!)

ha ha! I can relate! Housework comes last here, too, due to my illness. I tend to only read before my nap and before bed, so it's a real treat when I set aside "productive work" to just read during the day. Part of why I love camping so much - no work, just reading!!

You mean they won't let you set a low alarm below 60 or a high alarm above 100? That's very strange since most people are using it for exercise with much higher HRs than us. Hi Sue, So glad you're sitting up and feeling a little bit better ! I have been in a reading slump lately,mostly due to many doctors appointments recently. I was at a dental surgeon yesterday to have my Wisdom tooth pulled (at my age !). It was not bad,and I highly recommend IV sedation.I heard nothing,saw nothing,and most importantly felt nothing ! I didn't even need the pain med he prescribed. I always wanted my teeth straightened,but I went through 71 years of a crooked smile at at this point, it's just me ! I didn't notice any speech difference with you. Let us know how that goes (The Invisalign Braces). Stay warm and cozy with one of your many books ! Happiness, Cindy🌻

I understand, Sierra. Have you tried audio books? Just for pure enjoyment! And there are a lot of great YA and middle-grade books that are sometimes easier to digest, especially on audio. I am very fortunate that I never lost my ability to read, but my brain fog was pretty bad last week - you should have seen my Friday Reads video in its raw form - 30 min of not being able to find words, staring into space, trying to think what I meant to say, etc - I edited it down to about 16 min! ha ha Have you messaged Dr W about sleep or OI treatments? I feel like the clock is ticking this month :o

I listened to Tell Me More a few years ago on audio and liked it. I read Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson this year off my backlist TBR. I miss hiking so much, and hope to one day regain my health enough to go on some easy hikes. I love the audio of The House in the Cerulean Sea and I'm waiting for the audio for the sequel!
@SueJacksonDE10 күн бұрын
Oh, I bet Tell Me More was great on audio! I love how she can talk about deep, even difficult subjects but still make you laugh. And Somewhere Beyond the Sea was outstanding on audio! That was also on my Top 10 List for audios :) Walk in the Woods was a fun one! I miss longer hikes, for sure, but am very grateful that when I'm at my "normal" baseline, I am able to manage short hikes (usually a mile or less). It's been a rough few months, but I think I am finally coming out of this awful relapse - today is my 3rd pretty good day in a row!! And I saw such a huge difference recording this video - not just sitting up but my mind was so clear. Last week's Friday Reads was so rambling, I started with over 30 minutes and edited it down to 16 - ha ha! Brain fog was bad that day. I am currently reading "Bruised Sole: The Unfiltered Story of the Hoof GP." Look, am I saying everyone should watch a KZbin channel about hoof trimming cattle? I am not. But on the other hand, the channel is so interesting and somehow heart warming. The book is pretty matter-of-fact (he's a hoof trimmer, not a prose master) but also interesting. I'm listening to "I'll Never Tell," a murder mystery which so far is ... fine. Next on the docket is the sci-fi "Too Like the Lightning," although now I'm going to have to put "What the Chicken Knows" on my TBR, based on booklover6963's comment on it here. I love Sy Montgomery!
