Restore a bayonet, OK, but first try do document yourself, you won't write so many mistakes. The invention of the bayonet by Bayonne peasants is most likely a legend. And this bayonet isn't a US 1917, but a 1905 made for the 1903 Springfield rifle. Otherwise a nice job, but in 1917, all the American bayonets made then were blued.

Just a pile of junk thrown outside in the rain to rust and make videos with later. It's literally just a 20 dollar mall sword sold for probably double and bought by idiots like him. It's not even a real sword by any standards what so ever

That is a lot of work on a bayonet that is not very collectable. in good condition with scabbard they can be found at auctions for less than $75. They turn up frequently at auctions. I own one.

That is a U.S. Model of 1905 bayonet made at the U.S. Arsenal at Springfield, Massachusetts in 1917. It was made to fit the U.S. Model 1903 Springfield rifle but it will fit the U.S. M1 Garand rifle. the grips are walnut wood. The mechanism under the grips to to lock the bayonet in the scabbard. Depressing the catch allows the bayonet to be withdrawn.

Steel needs to be plated with copper first before plating with nickel. Also, I have one of these sword bayonets. The blade appears to be completely plated in nickel. I suspect though, that the rest of the steel hardware may have been blued, but I am not sure.

I had that same bayonet when I was a kid, I bought it from an antique store in Connecticut when I was 12. That's was 50 years ago. Lol

Sorry, but not impressed restoration. It would be better to grind and polish the blade, so that it is smooth and all the imperfections disappeared.

What kind of restoration is this when you destroyed the original engraving with sandpaper? Replacing the original with something new and different cannot be called restoration.

Nice job , but would of not made new wooden grips, as not only did I feel that it was unnecessary labour, but detracted from the finished job of restoration , only my opinion of course !

Calcium carbide doesn't produce just any old gas. It produces acetylene - VERY volatile! Also, it seems your soldering fire is a little too cold. The solder should flow, not glob up. BUT HEY! YOU are the artist here, so you are in charge. Excellent video, by the way. Thanks for making it.

All 3 were simply stunning, impressive skills. I'm just in the process of doing a parafin lamp aswell, and have a train carriage lamp sitting in the 'to do' pile. What do you use for the welding, is it tin? Great work 👍👏

Awesome work! I think it would be more efficient if you part this video in 3. People like shorter videos and it will also help you with yt algorytm if you will have more videos and upload often

Excellent work on all three. Suggestion: in your video title, indicate the number of items that will be restored. It's more interesting to know that you're seeing three 20-minute restorations rather than one 1-hour restoration. Keep up the good work!

Way to wave the white flag and go with gels instead of getting actual tinted glass. As someone who likes fomenting conflict, I just wanted to say that. Red glass costs more because real red glass uses gold. Honestly, I'm surprised, with the quality of the rest of your restoration, I would have gone with real glass. Yes, I'm just poking fun, I know France and America are long time allies. We could use your experience in dealing with despots lately.
