I've purchased several different types of ToneRider pickups. Single coils, Humbuckers and P'90's. It was the stellar reviews of their P90 line of pickups that made me try them out. Now I have them in several of my own guitars and the ones I build for others.

Man, I personally hate how mismatched the JB/Jazz are. Diffent strokes, I guess. I don't really need "sweetness" from my neck pickup, though. Especially not from a set called "Brute Force". I use it mostly for slower leads, and I hate how on sets like the JB/Jazz flicking the switch mid solo suddenly makes it so hard to play through the neck pickup if you have your sound set up for the bridge.

@@jblaze4583 they're quite unique, not like a JB/Jazz set or PAFs. The closest thing I can think of that I've tried is a Bill Lawrence 500XL (Nuno, Dimebag) and the neck is very much matched to that. The bridge is hot but not mid heavy like a lot of high gain pickups

Great timing on this - I’ve just bought an early 2000s Ibanez RG550 and trying to decide on a pickup set. I had been considering the tone zone / air norton combo, or maybe the SD/PAF Pro set… Would you say these are in that ballpark? Superb value and I’d love to support a small UK manufacturer.

Hi Jordan, I must admit you put out two great demo videos for BK True grit and brute forces. I`ve watched both of them countless times. I`ve recently bought an Ibanez RGR652AHBF prestige series guitar which comes with "Dimarzio fusion edge" set of pickups. These pickups are the weakest point of these guitars, according to many owners, plus me :) They`re relatively good at high gain tones but their low end response and muddiness are something to escape. I want more articulate, defined, strong mid ranged high-medium output pickups to replace them. I mainly play high-mid gain tunes like Opeth, Death, Slayer, Iced Earth, Iron Maiden kind of old mainstream bands. I used to have Jackson DK2 with SD SH4 in the bridge, which I adored it`s versatility. Due to Ibanez RGR652AHBF`s triangle shaped pickup cavities, I`m limited to 2 brands only(dimarzio and bare knuckle). Because SDs and others don`t fit without cutting, filing the square shaped baseplates. I`m in a position where I evaluate and watch all videos about Dimarzio d activator set, brute force, true grits. As I didn`t like the current dimarzio way of distortion characteristics, I`m highly interested in both true grit and brute force. Additionally, there`s another rg prestige series(RGR5221) which comes with brute forces as standard from the factory, encourages me. Basically, I`m looking for that SD SH4 kind of versatility + sweet fullness in my drive tones. I`m not sure if you`re experienced with all SD, Dimarzio series but I require your opinion on which one I should choose. I`m more inclined on to true grit set now, after your demo videos but your opinion really matters, as you`re more or less after a similar kind of sound. I mainly play at home through my DSL1 head + blackstar 10" cabinet, in low to modarate volume levels. Since DSL high gain is not very sharp and I prefer not to use an OD boost pedal, I`m also curious if brute force would be my pickup due to it`s relatively higher output. Thanks for reading all of these, Regards Burak

Thanks! I agree i've had an ibanez with those pickups and I really did not like them. My advice is go with the True Grit pickups, they're more balanced and are still plenty hot for metal

Hi again,@@jbrewermusic Things were changed a lot on my side, so I`d like to give a brief update. As I was not so happy with my Ibanez RGR652AHBF, I`ve returned it. Instead, I bought the same exact guitar you use here, Charvel Pro-Mod DK24 HH HT E. I`m very familiar with this neck and body type since as I was using Jackson DK2 HSS Japan for 10 years and sold it. I was so in love with the shape of this neck and radius so I`ve found myself buying this Charvel copy, as it seemed very tempting with all specs and price advantage :) You were also an another strong drive for me to get it, along with the alder body, SD pickups, relatively light body comparing to RG, neck and etc.. Since it`s a Mexico made, there`re certainly quality issues comparing to Japan made guitars. Which I can say, not perfect finish on the body, gap between the nut and fingerboard, not evenly installed pickups, cheap electronics and hardware (pots, switch, bridge itself). But overall it`s what was expected so no big surprise. My biggest disappointments with this guitar is, I can`t raise the pickups enough to get them closer to strings. The maximum I could raise them, is around 2,5mm at bass side, 2mm at treble side for bridge pickup(when pressed on 24th fret). After some point, the raising screw starts to turn futile and it goes out. I`m wondering if something wrong with my copy or it`s standard situation in all Charvel DK24 series. How`s your situation in both stock SD set and BKP set? Additionally, I noticed that the guitar has trembucker(f-spaced) in the bridge position and normal humbucker in neck. So, if I may ask, Which BKP set is suitable for it? 53mm or 50mm? Or, do I need to buy individual pickups for neck and bridge positions? As a Seymour Duncan JB fan, I`m so far satisfied with the characteristics of the SD Fullshred, except it`s toooo bright EQ. Especially after Dimarzio Fusion Edge, it feels like I`m home again. But I may consider for more balanced pickup in the bridge, like JB, SH6, True Grit. Thanks for your inspiration and your answer in advance! Burak

Thanks for this - having both units is the best way to compare them and as the button spacing is identical (along with the processing power) the minor difference would be the cabling and space on a board, the need for a MIDI controller on both makes the stomp the better option. I have the Pod Go and love the form factor but the sounds aren’t up the stomp so I think I’ll go with the stomp on a small board with a drive and a MIDI controller + 2 button switch and a small expression pedal. Again thanks - really good to hear from someone gigging these.

Thankyou! Yeah I still think the original stomp plus a midi controller gives you much more flexibility than the stomp xl
