This confirms old technology lasts longer than new tech. My old Samsung TV is 11 years old and the TV has no issues still or burn in.

Is it normal for the picture on my Bravia 7 to sometimes look very out of focus for a few seconds before it comes is sharp and clear? I’m assuming it is upscaling my streaming content, but I just assumed it would be quicker. One time it took about 5-6 seconds. I just bought the TV and just want to make sure this is normal or if I have a bad processor/board.

But how do I know if a TV is edge lit or not?
@tachyon5321Күн бұрын
If you use max brightness setting you will burn out the LEDs, but that does not test durability. It is product abuse. Why not block the intake air on your PC and see what happens.... Nothing more than click bait.

This has confirmed my personal experience, which perceived wisdom seems to tell a lot of people is totally wrong, and that is that nearly all TVs are likely trash after around 5 years of typical usage. I've never had an LCD (illegally sold as "LED") TV last more than 3 years without showing some visible signs of burn-in, other panel degradation, or back light degradation, or all three. My WOLED TV still checks out fine with a calibrator and greyscale tests after 3 years. So far for me, WOLED wins by some margin.

Every edge-lit LCD (illegally sold as "LED") TV and monitor I've owned has suffered LED failure in under 3 years of typical usage. I hadn't realised how hot they ran until I tried replacing them in a TV a neighbour gave me and suffered burns to the palm of my hand while testing the panel out of the case. It didn't help that the back light brightness defaulted to 100% on this model rather than something actually sensible. He was using the brightness setting to dim it (which obviously led to an awful picture) rather than dimming the back lights. I'm sure that's what prematurely killed them in the first place.

It's been a real problem on all of my VRR LCD (illegally sold as "LED") monitors too. Given the choice between a diabolically awful picture with flicker or a mind-blowingly incredible picture with flicker, I'll go for the latter.

I've got a Sony bravia 55" series 700 made in 2014. I've always had the backlight turned down to a level 2 or 3 and the brightness no higher than level 50. It's still going strong to this day!

Vrr is a scam don't need it. Never use it or gsync vsync
@vesselinkrastev5 күн бұрын
I can't get a good notion of how bad of an issue this is in real life. My only experience with VRR is on a laptop with a 144 Hz IPS G-Sync screen. It's a few years old now and I've never noticed such an issue. In regards to OLEDs, does this happen with really erratic performance only? If you stay within say 100-120 fps, does it still occur? Some people make it sound like VRR is basically unable.
@brottochstraff5 күн бұрын
But the amount of FPS instability that you are using in your testing tool is just crazy. What game behaves like that? Sure maybe a few seconds when the level is just loaded or there's some extreme dip in FPS due to smoke or something. But generally the fips does not fluctuate that much - i wonder how big of an issue this really is in normal usage. I will get my OLED in a week or so, so I guess I will find out :)

I can confirm this is true. Tested with a laser temperature reader, Samsung Q60A edge-lit QLED TV reads 116 degrees F at the bottom edge at level 50 (100%) brightness. Dropping it to level 35 dropped the temps to 97 degrees. The brightness makes a big difference in longetivity.

Maybe I'm special or something. First of all I'd like to say I've never had a TV fail on me. The next thing you need to know is my TVs are never shut off. If I'm home it's on. Sometimes I have months off from work and don't leave the house. It's on 24 hours a day during those periods. The only reason I ever bought any of my TVs is just for a bigger screen. I don't really see that much difference in the high dollar ones to the low dollar ones. I don't need anything fancy.

These tests along with some other videos from the channel has me convinced to pick up a lg qned866 mini-led . I don't need the latest greatest but this seems to fit everything no burn in and no edge lit failure. Its quite hard and I must admit getting lost in the forest of specs but this seems to fit the bill . The more I read reviews and watch them on KZbin the harder it was choosing , but I just wanted a few simple things. For it to work have good image quality and (hopefully) last a minimum of 5 years but aiming for longer

Amazing stuff. I got a M32U and I noticed it heats a bit in its lower corners, and even using it at a lower brightness setting, I wonder how long it will take to cause some issues. My previous monitor was also edge-lit but I never noticed any heat irradiating from it. Guess it is a large area to be lit by a LED strip, anyway. Now my next display will probably be OLED, but I'm start thinking I should've waited a bit more for a backlit display with a mini-led arrange, and maybe a functional local dimming feature.

I am a tv repair techenician. I totally agree on the feedback you have provided on flat screen tv where side lited tv failed and the backlit sheet was very difficult to replace. Moreover this company delebratly make tvs with out enough air ventilation, they should provide extra fan like in laptop. These company wants sale they dont care about enverolment impack.
@michael-4k40008 күн бұрын
It’s almost always the power supply. TVs like TCL, Vizio, & other cheap brands use cheap power supplies. That’s one of the ways they’re able to charge less for their TVs. Sony, Panasonic, and LG will use better more expensive internal parts and power supply. Unfortunately, what ratings is doing? Is giving information no doubt but one model of a TV dying after their torture test it really doesn’t tell much of anything. You would need a minimum of same 10 TVs really you would 100 TVs or as many as possible to get the best results.
