In some ways it looks better than some streamed 1080 content. Less banding, less pixelation on movement and just smoother overall. Where it is hurt is text and with shots that are further away or background images. Overall it is very watchable though. I am glad you are covering this in more detail. Very informative.

Thank you for the great content as always! Shadow detail, black crush tests would be great, because blooming test may omit some of the shadow details. ABL test would also be great for OLEDs, and it should reflect the score. Burn-in as well should have a larger impact on the score, especially if there's no warranty from the maker. Some sort of "Creator's intent" custom test against reference monitors and checking how well TVs replicate BVM-HX3110 image would be awesome. Lot of enthusiasts (people who check TV reviews!!) want to go for a natural image, and the best way to test this on a TV would be to put a reference monitor next to it and compare IQ. Vincent at HDTV Test does this, and that is why I buy TVs based on his reviews, and always been very happy with what I've gotten. Rtings is a 2ndary site for me, used to be number one, but still provides good info generally. I very much like the burn-in test content, that is extremely valuable and made me not go for A95K and instead to X95K (for which you upgraded the review as well, albeit it should still score higher than C2 for example as the aggressive ABL and burn-in are at the very least as bad deficit as blooming is on X95K.)

Congrats for ure start in KZbin 😃👍🏼🍻 About your upscaling tests: I think 480p is not up to date. More realistic are 720p 🤝🏼 480p is only necessary for really old non 16:9 Serials or Films. When streaming from Disney or so the older films or serials are already upscale! Also when u have older stuff on ure home server, they are already upscale when transcode. So there are really a small use case under 1% for that. When u rate on 480p the tv manufacture will improve Ai on there TVs that cost us more when buying this TVs. Going with 480p don’t show the real daily use case and are not representative in my opinion. 🙌🏼

The LG upscaling switches between favouring blur and favouring sharpness based on content detection. From what I can see, static images or anything filmed on a quality lens/camera with minimal compression artifacts takes the blurry algorithm, while anything else alternates between the two. You can see it clearly switching if you set subtitles to grey text with black outline and watch mixed content - sometimes the subtitles will have ringing artifacts and sometimes not

There was some issues with our test. For example the Sony OLEDs were being overly penalized when looking at the screen directly. This means that our test was not aligned with normal content. We are not closing the door forever as there is a lot of impact in these near blacks/shadow details that are important to users. What it means is that we have much more to understand and master before we can design a test to properly test this. We also need to think how this is impactful in both SDR and HDR content.

@deanwilliams433 Жыл бұрын
curious what makes it useful?
@ikarosav Жыл бұрын
@@deanwilliams433 short version: eye fatigue due to judder. long version: it’s a game with lots of orbiting a camera around a character with a far away backdrop behind it, and spinning at high speeds means for each frame at 30fps the environment moves a great distance, and as your eyes try panning smoothly across that scene to follow objects they all become a motion blurred smear due to persistence, enabling the soap opera effect yields a frame of latency, and some occasional edge artifacts, but all the motion blur is gone if the implementation is good, my tv does 120hz mothion smoothing with bfi at 240hz which results in effectively an 8x increase in clarity, that’s something i like to do to avoid eye fatigue when playing for many hours at a time. upscaling can also reduce eye fatigue if done right as the eyes can focus on a clear image, whereas if you’re looking at a blurry image your eyes will try to shift the focal plane into focus to compensate but fail to rest at one

Question, whren you test TVs, do you set the screen ratio at 16:9 or 1:1 or dot by dot, something like that, 16:9 crops some image.
@RTINGScomRD Жыл бұрын
Hi there, When we test TVs in general, they are going to default to a 16:9 aspect ratio. If we you are referring to our upscaling test this is a little more complicated. We send a 720x480 resolution to the TV via windows PC and play a video on MPC-HC player (the idea is to mimic DVD playback here). Using the TVs scaling/aspect ratio settings we then make sure the desktop is filling the most screen space without excessive cropping or overscan. Within the player we set the aspect ratio to assume square pixels. This is because windows works in square pixels (1:1) so most video players are designed to rectify non square pixels so you can enjoy DVDs and similar content on your laptop/monitor. However, the DVD players do not for historical reasons and modern TVs do this to keep backwards compatibility. So, if we let the PC correct the pixels then the TV applies the same correction twice and the image will not be displayed properly.

Aren't the CPUs in Sony, and pretty much every TV brand other than LG and Samsung actually made by Mediatek? I remember hearing about that somewhere, and it being the reason why only LG and Samsung were capable of having more than two HDMI 2.1 ports(Which might still be the case, not sure), because they make their own CPUs, while Mediatek makes ones for everyone else. @@RTINGScomRD Thanks. Looks like there is some burn-in after ~1100 hours. I'm looking forward to see if the panel refresh at 1500 hours fixes it.

Whether you like Sony or don't...... upscaling beast of a TV brand. And this hasn't been mentioned once or twice but plenty of times be it Digital Trends, Stop The Fomo, B the Installer, keepitclassytech, tech with kg, AV forums, HDTV test even Quantum Tv (Sony's greatest critic).

Is it normal for the picture on my Bravia 7 to sometimes look very out of focus for a few seconds before it comes is sharp and clear? I’m assuming it is upscaling my streaming content, but I just assumed it would be quicker. One time it took about 5-6 seconds. I just bought the TV and just want to make sure this is normal or if I have a bad processor/board.

i would like you to set up a 100 washers/dryers and combos to test witch one does the best laundry/dryes the fastest and cheapest. and test if the washer+dryer combo are as "awful" as promoted since i know is not ideal yet they do the job specially if you have a minimal space to keep a washer and dryer at home.

That’s definitely an interesting idea and something we’ll keep in mind. But we won’t be doing this any time soon. Maybe in the future, but it would likely be quite far into the future!

@@RTINGScomRD thank you very much for the kind reply. i do wanna mention its not necessary to do 100 washers dryers and combo. could be 5 of the top brands. like 5 washers 5 dryers (preferably electric not gas machines) and 5 washer/dryer combos. so its not that expensive!

I don't like how they made everything focus on joining their insider club. I get it, it's business, but they way they changed where you can just select a TV and see the review is now different and more complicated. It's fine that the insider access allows people to view the stuff sooner, but i feel like they are making people get it just to see the reviews. I used to be able to click on the TV reviews and all of the ones they did were listed. That is gone now and it keeps pointing me to the insider access. Anyway, be that as it may, great video and i do like the changes. Upscaling content is something i look for now when purchasing a TV. Hopefully a review for the TCL QM8 and Sony X90L will release soon. :)

We definitely appreciate your feedback and transparency. For what it’s worth though, you should still be able to see a list of all our reviews. Is this what you’re looking for? www.rtings.com/tv/index
