Looking forward to seeing how this plays out. As someone who owns a Samsung QLED TV that I paid $1500.00 for and started failing a few months past it's warranty. I called Samsung customer support and they acted like they were going to do something to help. They had me send all the documents on the TV, receipts and fill out forms. They even had me take pictures of the screen and send those. After a few days they said they were going to take care of me, being a loyal Samsung customer and offer me the current top of the line QLED TV for a greatly reduced price and a Five warranty. Then he told me the price and I laughed. I could get it at a lower price at Best Buy or Crutchfield or even Sam's Club with what ever warranty those companies sold. The whole ordeal left me really changing my mind on Samsung Brand. I still need a new TV , and with all the new models coming out now just trying to decide on LG or Sony or do I give Samsung another shot. The thing that drives me crazy is the price of TV's now, like cell phones. It's getting ridiculous and if I am paying $1000.00, $2000.00 or $3000.00 an up on a TV it should last more than TWO YEARS.

Got a 2016 Samsung LED 40" and she's still going and looks great! (for an LED...) Maybe they put more care into manufacturing back then?

What? !!!!! If you're paying $1K, $2K or $3K on a TV, it should last more than TEN YEARS, not two.

Impressive! Great test for Choosing TV. As you mentioned, max brightness could be as same as max power consumption. Then how do you check the max brightness before turnning on the test video? I would like the know the sequence of longevity burn-in test. And some TVs are changing the screen mode by itself when It turns on and off. Do you have any check step before turn on the test patterns??
@RTINGScomRD Жыл бұрын
Hello! We actually have detailed article that explains our test setup, the tests we use, the settings for the TVs, etc. We'd suggest checking that out! www.rtings.com/tv/tests/longevity-test As for the picture modes changing by themselves, we do verify our TVs to make sure the settings are accurate, so this is something we'd catch!

This is great stuff. You guys are way above anybody else in testing and my guides. One thing regarding longevity though: if one certain TV would break down, it would still be just one case, and it could be just that 1 in 50.000 bad cases you guys bought. You would almost have to buy minimum 3 TV's of the same brand and type to see if the one you tested it's representing the average quality of that TV. But I do realize that's a bit of costly bridge too far.
@floz9718 Жыл бұрын
Exactly my thinking. 3 TVs of one model might be a bit much but I would have liked to see at least two of each to ensure that the one unit in the test isn't just a lemon.
@yolosdeathdave Жыл бұрын
@@floz9718 they already buy the same tv if the old one gets broken but i do agre if they have 2 they can do multiple tests but let em live a bit heheh Seriously rtings yall should do all the tests needed for review and the start longtivity test for all upcoming tvs if it gets damaged buy a new one do it again just to make sure yeap this tv is garbage just like the company who made it

Interesting video and test. However, the most important thing wasn't mentioned in this video nor in the written article: What content is playing on the TVs?
@RTINGScomRD Жыл бұрын
That's a good point, thanks for bringing it up. We'll make sure to address this moving forward. We use CNN for the content though!

Thanks for the test :) I really like these kind of tests! Maybe my fault, but i didn't find information about what content is being used for the test. The IR on the sonys are from CNN?

I am a big outlier in how often I use my TV. Whenever I am not working or doing something else. I can be on my TV/PC (use my TV as PC monitor) for 10-12 hours a day easily. I watch movies, shows, do PC stuff and game. So everything is connected to the TV. So like I said if I am not working and so on. My Current TV likely have 20,000+ hours. Still ticking. Sony 900E. But it's time for a new one I need more modern features. A95L if the OLED doesn't dim during gaming (typical Sony) hopefully they fixed it. Or Samsung QN95C. I won't bother with ASBL king called S95C or B for that matter. Already tried it.

I spent the past week in researching about this burn in issue in OLED displays because I really wanna buy one but I don't fully trust OLEDs at the moment. Following RTINGS will bring me more up to date tests. Guys, you're kings ! Thanks :)
