Another top video, but I must say that you did look a bit of goose standing filming a sign that all your viewers could see said South Cape Bay 4 hours return and you saying, "I don't know how long it takes to get to South Cape Bay." 😂 But I've got a question. As a 6th generation Tasmanian myself, I'm wondering where you got the idea about the French, not to mention Polish, influence on Tasmanian culture? Lots of the landmarks were named by early Fremch explorers like Bruni d'Entrecasteaux (pronounced don tre cassto) but they never settled here. And the Polish? As Pauline Hanson would say, please explain. Keep up the good work. I love the camera footage.

When I film (loosely phrased lol) I film the real. Meaning I don’t read the panel then film, I’m filming as I read it so I’m going to miss things that maybe right in front of me. That’s because I film my reality, not to stage a scene. Does that make sense? Tasmania (especially Hobart) has a large Polish community that have settled there over generations, and many French have settled in the Huon valley for example. I would say their influence hasn’t been seen in architecture like say Montreal but in its food and agriculture. Thats certainly my experience from living in southern Tasmania anyway.

@OneAussiesAdventure Mate I've lived in the Huon Valley for 30 years and have met one French person plus am aware of one more who owned a Cafe. Likewise I've lived in southern TAS for more than 60 years and have met one Pole. There is a Polish club in Newtown but to say that there's a rich Polish culture or a French influence on food and agriculture is drawing a very long bow indeed.

22:05 Back in 1984 I spent most of the day at that location. There used to be a bridge across the thermal spring and the walking track continued back to the swimming pool. There's been several fires in the Hastings area over the years, I'm guessing that most of the timber structures that used to be part of the trail have been lost or rotted. Must get back down there one day. Last time I was at the cave, the current LED lighting hadn't been installed...

You might want to consider getting a UHF CB for your van as well. Most Camper vans reside on ch18 and then you have ch40 for highway driving. Most states have repeaters on ch1-8 and ch41-48. It's also handy when you don't have cell coverage for calling for assistance on ch5 (national emergency channel) just a suggestion 😉
@OneAussiesAdventureАй бұрын
Yep. I have a portable CB in the van that I take on hikes. Has a 5km range.

I've watched a series of your videos and understand why you do what you do but the thing that really grates with me is your assumption that people are stupid. But, yeah, I guess that there is a hierarchy of stupid, so where will we start? Death Camp? Really? Maybe you should have done some actual historical research, or at least, homework beforehand. Port Arthur was a place of secondary punishment, far from a death camp, but neither was it the place where the loaf of bread convicts were sent. Van Diemen's Land was not settled because they were closing Norfolk Island in 1814. VDL was settled in 1803. The Governor did not live at Port Arthur. The place was overseen by a Commandant. The Penitentiary was a flour mill before it was a cell block, not after. You refer to the Separation Room. It is the Separate Prison. Now, maybe I am being a pedant (you're missing an apostrophe in Aussie's for example) but the peak of the hierarchy of stupid is when you complain about the coffee at Port Arthur (not the best, I admit) yet drink Robert Timms instant coffee in your van. THE HORRROR.😅 But, I do like your videos. They are visually brilliant.

The reason the ‘ is missing in One Aussies Adventure is deliberate. Originally I had it but then had some issues with handles and web addresses (or address’) so I chose to keep it simple.

That viewing platform was only put in there about 2 years ago, previously it was a wooden structure that has been replaced several times over the years due to being washed away in extreme rough weather. In my youth at low tide we used to walk through the cave! Back in those days there wasn't a platform for viewing, it was just stairs to get down!
@OneAussiesAdventureАй бұрын
Yeah I’m grateful for the new platform. I was tempted to go down but the chicken prevailed ;)

Visually your videos are great and I really like your self-reflection. You could have explained at the beginning that you were at the Coal Mines historic site. My Great-Great-Great-Grandfather James (Jimmy) Harrison was a convict there at the time of the robbery that you talk about. There's more information about the Coal Mines (and Point Puer) in this video from my series about Jimmy. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4Xdq5J7grOJnrc
@steveharrison7923Ай бұрын
Interesting interpretation of the site. Amazing that you were able to get so much footage without hordes of tourists in shot. Just a comment about the Soldiers' Memorial Avenue though. It wasn't to commemorate the soldiers who served as guards at the Port Arthur penal settlement, but in memory of the residents of Port Arthur, then known as Carnarvon, who served in the AIF in World War One and were killed in action. You actually show the Roll of Honour with their names on it at the 35:48 mark of your video. In this video of my series about my convict Great-Great-Great-Grandfather I also mention the Memorial Avenue in the out-takes at the end. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJuleqKkqryeopI

I remember my first visit in 1996 when it was not as pristine as it is now. I sat on those steps leading down to the water outside the Commandant building. I felt the energy then and I have been several times since then and sit there and still feel it. A very special place.

I went to Munich, Germany to visit my bonus daughter. We visited the Dachau concentration camp. Needless to say, it wasn't a pleasant experience. I'm a big believer in energy. I felt weighted down, sad and by the end I had a full on headache. Seeing the pile of shoes was a slap to the face. It was important to go, but I don't think I'd had it in me to visit another place like that.
