Great review, totally agree with you, I bought it expecting it to be awful, but I really enjoyed it, and read an interview with Pete Townshend in which he said he loved it too!! Cheers oldmate😊✌️

It's great to hear about Bob's less known/appreciated albums. When I saw the cover of "Blue Moon" was there I wasn't sure if there was a need for another one but, as you said, it's Bob sharing the music he likes. I ended up loving his version

Totally agree. Lots of great moments on this record. Some silly and kind of ????? but all in all an album worth owning if you love BD.

Self Portrait was as ahead of its time, and as grand a record of terrific music as any artist could ever make. I perform Copper Kettle, Alberta, Strait of Belle Isle, love all the stuff on Self Portrait. Great musicians, lovely arrangements, lots of diverse influences and homages. Society is/ was just too dull and thick and unappreciative. Same old story.

Something was there but not on the studio version. Dylan did not want to take complicity for how he was perceived. His desire for self agency was real but so was his unbridled ambition. Thank God for his Olympian talent. He could not restrain himself and created a masterpiece with Blood on the Tracks, then threw himself into the Rolling Thunder Tour. Even his detour into fundamental Christianity could not stop his essential self from emerging. This planet is a far better place because of Bob Dylan. His legacy is incomparable.

The New Morning songs, and the Self Portrait songs are actually from the same sessions. People generally assume otherwise.

I very much enjoyed your video as, being a life long Dylan fan, I think this album is too often overlooked. Whilst I agree with most of your comments on the individual tracks that you mention, I have to admit I like the cover of The Boxer. At the time of the recording Self Portrait Dylan was splitting up with his manager, Alfred Grossman, and to ensure there would be as little copyright income as possible for Grossman, Dylan included mostly covers and very little original material in this album. Also, the Columbia Records recording studio used by both Dylan and Paul Simon is located on 7th Avenue, hence the reference to "the whores on 7th Avenue" in The Boxer.

Shadow Kingdom, 2022? is his most recent album. I love it all, especially Queen Jane Approximately and What was it you wanted. I really like your style.

The Bootleg Series version of this album is better but the original release is nice and pleasant enough

I certainly don't want any Boobie Dielong Lp's in my collection. The horrendous singing, superficial lyrics... ETC ETC. I would agree 5/6 of your first 44 are worth owning. Although Ambient 4 is stronger than 1 and 2!

I'm a huge Bob fan and this album is a sloppily produced and assembled mess. It doesn't matter. However, this choice will probably get you clicks, so well done.

Love Dylan, but this album just DOES NOT matter. There are a couple of good songs, but it is a DOUBLE album and has piles of junk on it. Dylan achieved his aim. His was able to make a duff album and it did damage his image. Why include this on a list of albums that matter?
