Was that last brown the one you caught in the summer with the big wound? Or maybe different fish same injury? Looked similar.
@OLDHATFISHING15 күн бұрын
Good memory! This is the first time I've fished that section so I doubt I've caught that one before. I did notice the old injury but it seemed healed up pretty well.

Those were some great fish! I have been struggling to find those big browns lately. Do you have any info about the ice conditions on Lake Cascade? I'm hoping to get up there soon.

I have a handful of set up videos on our other channel OLD HAT OUTDOORS and some on here as well. It’s very simple as it’s just a small size 8 salmon egg hook, a split shot (different sizes for different flows) and 6lb mono.

Do you stick exclusively to rapalas on the Boise in the winter or do you mix it up with spinners and other rigs?
@OLDHATFISHING26 күн бұрын
Winter and spring I use primarily shrimp on the Boise. Fall and summer I’ll use Raps on most rivers.

That happens every winter. They cover the entire river taking out deadfall and trees the could collapse in high water. Protects bridges and other areas during fun off.

I believe this is something different. It seemed he was doing work on some of the private property along the river. He was certainly not clearing anything along the river as I followed him all the way to where he exited again to get back on private ground. I could be wrong though but at the very least, he seemed to be driving right through prime spawning habitat.

Lake trout Bait
@humbugvideos29 күн бұрын
Brown trout spawn in November, and according to the internet it takes anywhere from 6-20 weeks for eggs to hatch. I feel like this is a situation that fish and wildlife needs to know about, regardless of the depth that guy was driving in. Thoughts?
@OLDHATFISHING29 күн бұрын
That's all I thought about as he drove right through what had to be brown trout spawning areas.

Another great day on the Boise! What power and length of rod do you need to fish this method? Thanks
@OLDHATFISHINGАй бұрын
My preferred rod is a 6' St. Croix medium action rod. It was my dad's rod from around 30 years ago so I just enjoy using it. However, I think a 7' medium action rod would be best for how I fish.

What color Rapala?

Depends on the river but crawdad is always a winner.
