The problem here is Brad Pitt, yes, but isn't it always? He is at best adequate in most of his roles; however, because he is so handsome and tall, and he has this cinematic presence, one can easily get fooled into thinking that he's great In this movie, for instance, he comes across as emotionless, almost blasé, even, in scenes that require pathos. Marion Cotillard, on the other hand, is a multifaceted, nuanced actress with a broader range. Because of that disapirity between the two leads, the relationship feels lop-sided. Nevertheless, a fun romantic thriller overall.

I really hope this leads to Zach getting more directing gigs. I really enjoyed Barbarian, and I really hope we can get more films like it, but honestly, Zach's skills really shine in this film, and he's definitely the type of director we need in the mainstream right now.

If you want guns in space, explosions in space, aliens, fast laser shooting action, then this movie is not for you. If you want to have your mind blown away at the very beginning, and then at the end of the movie say, "What the f**k did I just see? What the Hell did I just see?"

1. If you haven't see 2001 in a movie theater you haven't really seen it. The same could be said for Lawrence of Arabia. 2. The name of the spaceship going to Jupiter was Discovery 1. 3. Half of the audio for the video was horrible.

04:20 "Comedy is a method of escapism" I could not disagree more. Comedy is, was, and always has been an exaggeration of the truth. A harsh, brutal view of how things really are. You can't escape it if the whole point of comedy is forcing you to pay attention and acknowledge the subject matter at hand in a way you never have before. Think of the kind of comedy that George Carlin is famous for, as well as John Mulaney who you featured in this part of the video. They do nothing but tell you about what's actually going on. Comedy is honesty. It's not escapism. I think what you meant to say is comedy is catharsis. Because we can find relief in mocking our struggles. In Inside, Bo says "Should I really being joking at a time like this?" But the hardest of times are when we need comedy the most.

@@GarrettMcDowell the only thing i think may have been incorrect, or perhaps you left out because he was co-director rather than solo, is that he did direct Miss March with Trevor Moore in 2009. I was wondering if zach considers this HIS first movie though going solo. But i loved how you really went into the creative process with him, please interview damien leone or david howard thornton about Terrifier if you ever get the chance!

@@Ottophil He was out partying one night when Jimmy was his boss, and they ended up in a brawl against eachother. There was no hard feelings. How is "Barbarian" an anagram of "Airbnb?" Barbarian is 9 letters, Airbnb is 6, and "Airbandb" is only 8. I'm very confused here. Is this just a mistake that no one thought to check?

....just going to say...wow. fucking wow. This movie was awful. I wasn't scared or uncomfortable. I laughed throughout the entire movie. The "victims" were so stupid. There were plenty of opportunities for the victims to escape or leave. The "metaphor" flopped. "Women are conditioned in society to be cautious because they aren't safe and men are oblivious to their surroundings and men not listing to women" this film was directed by a rich white man so we all just got mansplained to through a "horror" film. To me this movie was just a bunch of stupid people getting themselves killed by a flappy titted monster that I named "Flappjacks". The title "Barbarian". I don't see how this title fits this stupid movie. Lol
