I had it for year and only used it for a month or two. I spent more time (+ money) trying to plan/ figure it out. Google calendars was a lot easier. If I had a team and an assistant I would buy this for them. So they could collaborate + plan my schedule with another companies schedule.

I don't mind Notion but it takes longer to set up than the actual work itself most of the time. got to the point where its too complicated for an average person in my opinion.

Francesco, I share your enthusiasm for the Audio Overview tool. You have a 10 min Deep Dive in this video. Let's suppose you only wanted a Deep Dive that lasts 5 minutes. How can you tell the robots to do a 5 minute conversation about your topic? I tried using customize but I couldn't get a DEEP DIVE that lasted 5 min.

Dear Tool Finder, I've just had a micro-experience in my pants. I'm told having a micro-experience is nothing to be embarrassed by. It happens to the best of us. Since you have had many micro-experiences, could you recommend some good therapists who could help me get over it? I'd like to make a list of their names and various attributes and spend the next 2 weeks of my life organising them all in Notion. Yours, etc. Tool Seeker (Mrs.)

I had never heard of this app, but I was looking for a dedicated flashcard app to learn German. I started using Anki, but it is really ugly and aesthetically outdated. But while watching youtube videos to learn how to use Anki, I learned how to make effective flashcards and the best ones are clozes. I can see that Mochi allows me to do clozes. After Anki, I used Remnote and more recently Logseq, but I don't like using an app that does a bunch of things just for flashcards. I can't wait to try Mochi!

what textedit style note taking app, supports a “calendar layout” eg one page, wk numbers day-date, one day per row, add columns where i text or tick

I'd throw in Remnote. It's basically Notion with a focus in learning. It's really awesome!

I am surprized why Coda is not included in the list. It is the closes alternative to Notion and much cheaper.

Loving this -- the thing I'm hunting for that notion gives me is the ability to create a table with tabs that automatically update for example I label something house to do and label something else to do and it will end up in the filtered category for house To do and the to do labeled ones remain on the home screen. If I can find that I would move away from notion
@HippieP629Күн бұрын
Controversial? Geez. TY for showing legit alternatives that work great for ppl. Coda, Anytype, amplenote, affine, craft, capacities, tana, etc etc. Can be perfectly capable platforms. Notion is slow & clunky, especially when DBs get bigger and bigger. The more marketing, the more attention. The more attention, the more partnerships w other APIs. It's a flywheel effect that convinces ppl that alternatives are "controversial" (see apple, autodesk, etc)

I don't use Apple devices, so I didn't know there was an option for tables and things like that, Samsung notes don't even have geometric features available on tablets

I particularly use Microsoft To Do and I think it's incredible and simple, one of the reasons I don't replace it is that there is no open source that is similar or superior to it.

Have you ever reviewed infinite whiteboard software? I would like an opensource alternative if possible, from Whiteboard from Microsoft, the only ones I found are tldraw and excalidraw, but it only works in the browser and there is an app to use offline

I'm glad you did a review, I found it 2 days ago and really wanted to test it because it's opensource (and I had my problems with Notion) but I found it on Github searching for mental whiteboard because I want to create mind maps and notes with my graphics tablet, I'm very excited 🤩

Don’t use anything that has financial backing, or even any sort of pay tier. That’s the app which is trying to get you depending on it before forcing you to pay, lose privacy, or both down the line. There’s literally hardly any other reason for a pure note taking app to exist. My recommendation: use eMacs and org mode or neovim and norg or some other plugin like and GitHub or some or sharing/syncing solution.

I have a lifetime subscription to Endel. I've used it for several years. I still have no idea what it does other than make sounds that are supposed to help you do something. I find the OS app provides one of the worst user experiences of almost any app I have. The menu seems to frequently change. It's unclear what the "endless soundscapes" are. Same with the Scenarios. The various states - like focus, relax, sleep, activity - appear to have little relationship to the actual activity one is engaged in. Other than that, it's a great app.

Love the vid, as always. Couple of questions: 1. How do you compare this to Capacities (which you reviewed about a year ago)? 2. My favorite part of memdotai is a) the freedom from having to manually tag and organize as it does it for you and b) the focus on creating your own search engine/LLM trained on *only* what you add to the app. Can heptabase take care of those needs? Bonus 3. Glasp's approach to community, sharing and chatting with each other's second brains, etc. is very compelling. Anything like that in here?

Did I miss the link to the shortcut?
@michaelcharlesparsons6714 күн бұрын
To me, the most compelling thing about this system is the concept of setting up a Home page (as well as the heavy asterisk for search navigation) with links to key notes / folders. If you just combine those principles with smart folders, then the concept makes a bit more sense as an easy-to-setup system to manage & access notes. I should note that the Home concept could simplified even further by using a Shortcuts selection menu, or having the individual "hubs" as Shortcut actions in a folder on your home screen (it does seem a bit superfluous to always have to access a note in order to access another note. You could just create Shortcut links to each of the section notes), but this way does seem to make sense if you have a lot of categories....

Awesome overview! Very comprehensive and clear. However, at 4:43 you make it seem like it's possible assign a task to a block of time in the calendar (i.e. with end time and not just start time), but then you show that it completely discards that duration after all - you even acknowledge this in the script seconds later. What gives? Why even suggest that it is possible in the first place? But other than that, excellent video - great work!
