Both engines you should not let a standard mechanic work on. 2zr are prone to oil leaks and oil burning. Not so with the 2zz-GE as long as its serviced. Key is to find a knowledgeable mechanic that know these engines inside out. You can swap engines btwn 2003 and 2013 if im not mistaken for the the matrix and corolla models

MAF sensor gets placed on as well. If you check my video of my 2006 Toyota Matrix Base to XR Conversion, you’ll see how it’s laid out.

Thanks Kasey! Well from past experience, I’ve had two. One was a 2006 Base that started it all. It was a 1ZZFE so I didn’t know a 2ZZGE even existed at the time LOL. I went about converting what I had to a prefacelift style. The second Matrix, was my first XRS. I had accumulated soft knowledge on them (I.e. 2zzge, VVTL-i, LIFT, “Toyota VTEC”, etc). That one underwent a head rebuild because the previous owner drove it without coolant so it overheated. Long story short, I went fully modified with the courtesy of TRD Genuine Parts with that one (2003 Matrix XRS 6MT). Then unfortunately I had to sell both because modifying cost way too much for my budget. Then now, I have my third Matrix, aka my second Matrix XRS (2003 6MT). I’ve been in the community ever since 2016. The car’s taught me so much that I fell in love with it. I will always come back to the Matrix. They might look like a regular car on the outside, BUT the XRS in specific, those have potential that not many know about. If you do want a Matrix XRS, I’d suggest the 2003 with 6 speed manual because you can engage in VVTL-i at the lowest RPM (6200) vs the 2004-2006. Also 2003 doesn’t have secondary air injection (smog issues). Now to answer your question, YES BUY A MATRIX XRS! They are fast stock, modified with possibilities of supercharging and turbocharging as well. There’s some that choose naturally aspirated and that works too! Thanks for watching and commenting!

In all honesty. The matrix isn't fast at all stock. It has many pros compared to the cons this car has. Pros being it's super reliable if well maintained, they can look super clean if done right, and it's an all in one car and still cheap to this day. It's not gonna win you many races unless you do your research to getting your hp goal. But overall the Matrix XRS version is a great enthusiast car for beginners and even people who want just want a fun daily. Just throw premium and she's ready to take on adventures. And surprisingly there's pretty decent aftermarket support for these cars

@kaseyrae7694 I started my journey looking for a reliable AWD car that gets good gas mileage which ended up bringing me to the 1ZZ Matrix only to find the 2ZZ or Matrix XRS. I really really really wish they would have put this engine and a 6 speed in the AWD model cause they would have had a hit for sure with that combo! But they never did that and it sounds like there's a ton of issues trying to do it I guess the AWD system wouldn't hold up to the extra power and I believe if I remember correctly there were also fitment issues trying to get it to work as well but after learning that Toyota went to Yamaha to have them help build the top end of the engine that pretty much sold me on forgetting the AWD part of it if I can find a decent one with low miles in good condition without rust. Living here in Southwestern MN in the salt filled roads during the winter here really eats up vehicles. I've owned a few different Yamaha motorcycles and man they know how to build a great engine! Like this Toyota Matrix XRS the Pontiac Vibe GT is almost the exact same car (GM used their own AC system and a different radio are the main differences along with the changed body style) so I've been looking for one of those as well but they are pretty hard to find in good condition where I'm from unfortunately. Neither of these cars are really all that fast though. Quick sure but definitely not fast unless you put a supercharger or turbo on them and even then they still aren't fast by today's standards. I mean when your talking about 500+ HP in modern fast vehicles these would be pretty hard to keep up with most fast cars nowadays. If your looking for something that gets good gas mileage which isn't a turbo or supercharged vehicle but it sounds good with that high revving Yamaha inspired engine which is a fun car to drive then this is the vehicle for you. If you want fast without having to do a lot of work I would look at more modern cars which already have these things implemented. I feel if I get an extra set of winter tires I won't really feel the need to have AWD so that's what I'll be looking to do if I ever find one for a decent price in decent condition

@PloopChute
@PloopChute 8 ай бұрын
@NightSociety The fact that it's a defunct brand doesn't matter. It's still a vehicle with widely available parts that are extremely cheap and plentiful. And it's not like you're getting any better support from Toyota for a 15-20 year old vehicle just because they're still around. Also, I'd say it's a stretch to call the Matrix "sportier" looking. Mostly, I hear the term "uglier," but that's subjective. Nah, it's because it's a hidden gem of a vehicle and most people simply don't realize it's a Toyota. Considering I see a ton of both on the road and maybe once have I ever seen a Matrix with any body kit or aftermarket numbers, I think you're crazy wrong. "Most people" are definitely not buying them for looks and DEFINITELY not for body kits, the latter of which is hilarious to even consider. They're buying them because they're cheap (even the Matrix doesn't hold value the same way a corolla or camry does, despite it literally being a hatchback Corolla with a different name) and insanely reliable. It really is that simple. People are kinda dumb. They see a brand, and that's where their hunt ends.

I have a buyer already. Bone stock for $6.5k, currently at 132k miles with no check engine lights. Timing cover gasket (common 2ZZGE oil leak) was done at 125k miles. Also have service records as well in CarFax. $6.5k clean slate firm. If buyer flakes, then highest bidder takes it.

@@primerugz9738 turns out buyer flaked. It’s still here if you’re interested. Same price, almost 100% bone stock. Needs a new clutch (throwout bearing wearing out), needs a replacement timing chain tensioner o-ring, and there’s a small power steering leak at the pump (possibly a hose o-ring). $6.5k with stock suspension or $7k with Megan Racing EZII Coilovers mounted. Lemme know.

Hey, would this work on the base XR models too?
@thai2zz35
@thai2zz35 Жыл бұрын
It won't because DC Sports Part Number: THC4403 only fits 2ZZGE (2003 Matrix XRS exhaust manifold flange). For Base/XR, I'd recommend trying to find THC4405. Although they're discontinued, you should search on the online marketplace daily. There's some people getting lucky through junkyards as well.
