I can NEVER see myself selling my 03 XRS! Absolutely amazing machine im so glad everyone sleeps on them! Im unique with one and all the car guys know what it is, and chics in love with the wagon lifee! Its everything I need, a sporty 6 speed that revs to 8300rpm, with an insane amount of storage/transport. There will never be another Matrix, the lost unicorn that few can find.. yet even fathom!!

Thanks Eric for the compliment! That black hood (NRG Carbon8) was one of the biggest trademarks that I had on this car. I think I was the only one that had it in California or maybe even nationwide. NRG discontinued this hood in 2018. There was another brand that was in competition with this style hood made by Erebuni. Quite identical but only differentiated by brand name. I like this hood most compared to what VIS or AIT Racing had to offer because it stands out a lot more with the style of vents!

what is the difference on 2zz from celica and 2zz from xrs/corolla? im bit disapointed that i got the 2zz from xrs/corolla instead of the 2zz from celica.. ill be putting it on my yaris vios

I think the only real differences are air injection was added 04+, the early Celica GTS had a slightly different style intake manifold(not sure if it was a total design change with longer runners or just produced differently, visually they're a bit different), upgraded lift bolts in late 02+? 2ZZs, some basic ECU tuning and VVT/VVTL crossover tweaks, the water pump impeller/casting is different depending on application. Internals should all be the same. There could be some more minor differences I'm forgetting. The later C60 trans was improved as the years went on too, I think it ended up with stronger syncros 05+? and the gates for 5 and 6 were made to be out farther from 3 and 4 because a bunch of early Celica drivers were mis-shifting/overrevving(I want to say 01+, but can't remember for sure). Although no matter the year it's still a fairly weak trans, but it does alright at stockish power levels. Everybody claims the early 2ZZs "made more power" but ratings were higher early on and decreased across the board after SAE testing standards changed. The long blocks should all be nearly identical apart from maybe air injection no matter if it's an Elise or a Matrix, if they aren't then I haven't heard otherwise yet. I guess what I'm saying is that stock dyno numbers for most of the cars equipped with 2ZZ/C60s to the wheels seems to be around 165-170whp. Full bolt ons and a tune gets decent gains(185whp-190whp) but it's pretty well optimized stock for the cams that are in it.

It’s a beautiful color! Desert Sand Mica (4Q2) was offered in 2003 only, definitely rare to see on a Gen1 Matrix today as well as Solar Yellow (only offered in 2004). Then there’s Shadow Mica (only offered in 2005).

For these, they were named Aeroshades from AutoVentshade (AVS). Nowadays you can find universal ones called “Window Louvers”!

Long discontinued. I found mine off someone else’s car. Long story short, my buddy and I traded spoilers. He bought someone’s car with the ATS duckbill while already having a defective AIT Racing CF spoiler. I had a clean and non defective AIT Racing CF spoiler so we had a deal and traded. Lol otherwise it would be highly impossible to find one today.

They're discontinued by a brand called Eagle Eyes. There's people that started customizing their 05-08 clear tail lights with black internals. I'd give that a shot to replicate what is gone today!

Yeah man the whole car is like an antique being an only option color in 2003. I do not know how many were made unfortunately, however if it’s Desert Sand Mica, XRS, and automatic (super rare 4-speed offered in 2003 for 2ZZGE).

Found mine on OfferUp (local buy/sell app) for $120. They came black, so I got a quote from PCM Coating for a powdercoat job to bring them back to OEM silver. Paid around $350 out the door. Worth it!

No the rear coilovers are together with the springs. It’s a spring over strut assembly, for the 2003-2008 Corolla/Matrix/Vibe.

Crazy how you found your old car again through this video LOL. The guy is named Steve! He taught me how to drive manual in it then I eventually bought the car from him, making me the third owner! Ugly burn on the side mirror? Honestly I didn't mind it too much because the overall look of the car is the big picture. 3-4 weeks? I've already transferred the title to Steve himself. Wow, such a small world that we live in! It's nice to meet you, Mr. First Owner! Great evidence proving that this car was originally yours. However, what I am curious about is that why did you ditch the car after the head gasket leaked? Also why did the head gasket leak in the first place? Those are the questions that question me whether I should sell the car back to you or not. Also I'd like this car to go to a good home for someone who has knowledge on Yamaha's 2ZZGE vs someone who just buys it to drive it. The motor currently has 209k miles (original miles) and has underwent a head rebuild at 200k miles with OEM Toyota gaskets and seals along with a new Toyota OEM water pump. When my mechanic took apart the head, we did come across the use of aftermarket/cheap/non-genuine parts. I paid $3,000 out of pocket for that service. So if you think you're going to get my car for anywhere in the lines of inexpensiveness and fully modified with tasteful aesthetics, you're wrong. If I did plan to sell it to you within the 3 or 4 weeks, remember to have $10-12k ready. This build's no joke to me. With all due respect, you'd be better off with a 1ZZFE 5 speed manual or automatic because the 2ZZGE is high maintenance and requires full attention. What I've learned from having this car for a little over a year is that the head gasket doesn't just leak because it's uncommon for it to do so. What's more common on these engines is the timing cover gasket, which becomes brittle, and leaks intensely. Good luck finding one!

TRD and eBay aesthetics 🤣, Second shit happens bro I had just dumped all of my money into a new house when the radiator took a shit I lost all of the fluid pulled over on the freeway,that's what happened, I did afew things on the car,rotors,visors,radio,tint,intake,etc was already looking for a family car to daily,so my money went into an accord sedan,but had plans for this car!but il find another one with low miles,maybe u should get your 1zz back🤣good luck finding a buyer for that price!your such a nice person bro
