As a martial artist, I'm struggling with an injury right now. Accurate information nowadays is hard to come by and I'll always appreciate credible sources that take responsibility in ensuring the truth is openly available. Its my first time to learn about you and your connection to Bruce Lee, so I haven't read any of your works. Once I scrounge up the money I'll give your books a respectful read that a diligent writer deserves! Thank you for the wonderful insight in an otherwise confusing/convoluted history of Bruce Lee's back injury.

Thanks for your comments. If you'll approach Bruce's life with an open, mature mind that hasn't been indoctrinated by the decades of marketing his brand, I believe you'll find the true and full accounting of his life far more compelling than much of what has been promoted. I hope you'll have a full recovery from your back injury, and soon, as Bruce did with his. Happy New Year.

@TomBleecker
@TomBleecker Ай бұрын
The problem isn't that Bruce "did drugs." The issue is the amount of drugs he was doing, specifically cocaine, that may well have been the cause of his early demise (large amounts of cocaine are known to cause brain edema). I suppose you could take the same position with regard to Michael Jackson's early demise due to his drug use, as well as Elvis Presley, and a long list of others. Beside Bruce's drug use possibly being the cause of his death, it had a major negative impact on his personality and his physical actions. I agree with you that alcohol is a problem for millions of people worldwide and that Bruce's father smoked opium, but this doesn't diminish the fact that Bruce's use of drugs was well beyond recreational.

@TomBleecker
@TomBleecker 2 ай бұрын
Although Bruce technically was nearly broke when he died, he was owed a lot of money by Chow. The problem was that Bruce had never signed any contracts with Chow and when Bruce died, Chow held all the purse strings. Eventually, Chow was forced to pay Bruce what was owed, which amounted to over two-million dollars in the early 1980s when he settled.

You handled that with class Tom, whilst the same cannot be said for this Alex KFG guy. The fact he actually tried to get you on his channel then turned against you, speaks volumes! You should know that Alex comes from the Leung Ting lineage of Wing Tsun but is regarded as a very incompetent joke that tries hard to promote himself. At EWTO headquarters in Heidelberg, Instructors and students often play videos of Alex Richter doing Wing Tsun for the comedic value as he is so physically incompetent. When he left Leung Ting's organization he did not know the full system, so I have no idea where he is meant to have learned the rest of the system from or if he picked it up from books and videos. Alex Richter is a very poor fighter too, however to be fair he has never claimed to be otherwise or put himself up there with tough fighters in the Wing Tsun lineage, Mr Bean would beat Alex in a no rules fight. Whilst you actually met and knew Bruce Lee, Alex obviously never did but unbelievably he seeks to criticize you and considers himself an authority on all things Bruce Lee. The way Alex tries to dissect your book is laughable because you could do that with any such book e.g. Bruce Lee died and the official verdict was given but any biographical author is then going to give surrounding circumstances and their views. The fact is your book told it all first, and was the first to show the real Bruce Lee warts and all, whilst these KZbinrs like Alex are completely irrelevant!

I kind of doubt Alex is as much of a pathetic Wing Chun practitioner as you say. He's got a successful studio in NY City, which is highly competitive in Kung Fu schools and he has people in Europe and even Hong Kong that respect him. Even some highly respected Hong Kong Sifu seem to respect the guy. Maybe he's not highest level Sifu, but he also doesn't seem to be the mega loser you claim.
@JohnStrobel-o7w
@JohnStrobel-o7w 2 ай бұрын
@@TheFiestyhick Since when does success mean any good, albeit a small success at that, Ashida Kim - Ninjitisu, Carter Hargreaves - Jeet Kune Do are far more successful and well known than Alex Richter. You should view videos of Alex, Ashida, Carter then decide yourself on their respective abilities. In Wing Chun, Wing Tsun circles he is viewed as a physically incompetent joke. As for his knowledge, he left Leung Ting's organization IWTA / EWTO without knowing the full system and with huge gaps in his knowledge, you can easily verify that - just email or contact Leung Ting's organization and ask if he learned the full system. Nobody is saying he is a mega loser as you put it, but he is a very poor martial artist and poor fighter. You can ask Alex directly where he learned all the Wing Tsun system from, maybe he is transparent about that and states where he got the blanks filled in and learned the rest of the system. As for his character he wanted Tom Bleeker on his show, then later turned against him. He cannot take criticism even if constructive, and will block you or delete comments. He gets most upset when you question the effectiveness of Wing Tsun for modern combat.

You've got to wonder about someone who is content to name himself 'Kung Fu Genius'. I was hostile to your book when I first read the book UM, it shed light into darker corners of Bruce's life which did something most other bio's didn't and that is show he was human. He had flaws. Additionally, your closeness over the decades with Bruce's network meant you had time to hear so many different views and like all of us, speculate. It's seldom (if ever) that an author writes the ultimate biography but the more biographies you see, the more rounded the perspective becomes. Unlike many biographies, yours doesn't try and create that ultimate biography, it gives the reader a change to ponder questions most leave untold. You are a quality writer Tom and I enjoyed UM and your superb bio of Benny Urquidez. Ignore parasites like Reichter who seek their fame on the back of the amount of hours spent writing Unsettled Matters etc not to mention the considerable expense incurred. It's easier to knock someone who had put those miles in than to do it yourself. Keep it going.
