Well, everyone else seems to think this is Bruce Palmer on bass! I wish I knew for sure!

Had a hard time picking up the bassline. Usually I can hear Bruce Palmer's bass playing loud and clear. Does anybody know who is playing bass in this song? The picture shows Jim Messina.

Anoche (if you’re still there): “For what it’s worth” (really, no pun intended here), the demo has 4 verses as opposed to 3 on the full band version, but what Stills did was consolidate 2 of the verses together, mainly to reduce the time on the song to under 3 minutes, probably for the purposes of release as either side of a single (demo length, not including the spoken part at the beginning, is about 3:50; full band version is about 2:45 to 2:50.) Contrast that with Hung Upside Down, where Stills actually did drop the middle verse for probably the same reasons, only for Atlantic/Atco to not release it as a single but as an album track (part of the overall reason, my theory, is the label did not do their usual excellent job selecting the right songs to release and promote as singles. Which, considering the talent in the band, seems incredibly unbelievable.) At least some of the band members had success eventually.
