How are the batteries? I have the XP 50 and they could be better, much better. Are the batteries the same? Otherwise I’m looking to upgrade.
@thomasjacksltd25 минут бұрын
You should be getting up to 9hrs on your XP50 before you need change batteries. I believe that's significantly longer than its main competitors (who give battery life for using all the spare batteries they supply with it). The XT50 is up to 8hrs, because of the larger sensor and display. Just remember battery performance in any product will be impacted to some extent by the outside temperature.

@thomasjacksltdАй бұрын
They both have the same number of pixels in their thermal sensors and same base mag, so the difference in these conditions, at close range is negligible , especially on the video output (less so through the lens). However, the bigger lens on the XP50 captures more thermal info, which you will notice at bigger ranges. And the XP50 will cope better in high humidity, mist, fog & rain because its sensor has larger pixels / the sensor is physically larger).

@thomasjacksltdАй бұрын
Definitely. All down to the high humidity on the day we filmed.
@naturebylennartАй бұрын
Thank you for this very useful comparison! I'm thinking of buying either the XP50 or the XL50. However I'm not sure which one would actually be able to detect the most at a long range. The XL50 obviously has more pixels, but I see the XP50 has a lower mk value, which theoretically should make it more sensitive to objects right? I thought I also noticed on your video that the XP50 picked up just that bit more. But then the detection range of the XL50 is reported to be a bit higher... The price of both is a factor to consider too of course. What are your thoughts on this?
@thomasjacksltdАй бұрын
The interesting thing about this test was the high humidity, which will tend to favour a larger pixel / lower NETD XP50. So if you want the best tool for every weather, I'd be edging towards the XP50. But choose the XL50 if you're more fair weather / ideal conditions (with occasional wet/humid/foggy use), or if you're scanning big areas that'll favour the wider FOV, or want richer detail (for animals and the background... to help with spacial awareness and better quality videos). The extra pixels in the XL also tend to look better if you do a lot of digital zooming.
@naturebylennartАй бұрын
@@thomasjacksltd Thank you for explaining! Then it sounds like the XP50 would be the better choice for me. My main goal would be to find as much wildlife as I can in different circumstances. To try and figure out if I'm actually looking at something exciting the extra pixels would come in handy, but not as important as finding animals and beinig able to rule out non-wildlife objects. I will try them out both just to be sure which one gives me the best experience, but this kind of information helps a lot to make a decision.

What are your thoughts between the Helion's magnesium alloy housing vs. the Telos' rubber armored reinforced plastic housing "besides" the weigh difference? Helion ~ 18 ozs. Telos ~ 25 ozs.
@thomasjacksltdАй бұрын
Historically I would have opted for an alloy body given the choice, but the composite ABS moulding on the Telos has proved itself for nearly a couple of years now, and shares a lot of the same characteristics (like strength-to-weight ratio, shock absorption, heat dispersion), so there really isn't a lot in it. We've not had a Telos in the UK service centre that's been driven over yet, which either means people are better drivers now, or it's just as tough as the handful Helion's that we managed to repair after a fight with a car/truck/tractor!

Don't waste your money if you have the XL50's ... Pulsar are having us on , by reducing the base mag to 2x from 2.6x their giving you the same amount of pixels as the XL's ( 1024 sensor ) but on a wider area due to FOV ... each pixel on the XL & XT is 24mm !
@thomasjacksltdАй бұрын
The XT has 1.3 million pixels in its sensor. The XL has 786 thousand. The XT also has a much larger display, so it will deliver a better viewing experience. However, both are top end thermal binoculars, that out-perform the market in many regards, so choosing between them might be difficult until you try both for yourself, for whatever criteria you choose to prioritise (eg FOV, or Mag). @@thomasjacksltd Yes the XT has more pixels but their spread over a wider area making the pixel size the same The FOV on the Merger XL50 is 24.6m ( 2.6x ) at 100m so 24,600 divided by 1024 sensor size is 24.02mm per pixel The FOV on the Merger XT50 is 30.7m ( 2.0x ) at 100m so 30,700 divided by 1280 sensor size is 23.98mm per pixel It is obvious there is no gain with the XT's over the XL's even if you look at the detection distance .... @thomasjacksltdАй бұрын
@@OSOK7 That's the effective width of one pixel at 100m at the base mag. The main advantage of the XT is the overall extra width in FOV - so you see more on the periphery. Also if you digitally zoom the XT to 2.5x (so they're at the same magnification) you're looking at 1.05m pixels on the XT, versus 786k on the XL. If your XL is doing the job you need it to do, stick with it - It'll serve you well for years. For anyone in the market to buy - they have a choice and the extra FOV on the XT might be enough to seal it. That and the 25Hz refresh rate. Merger: <40mK is the sensor NETD (ie The INPUT, before any processing. And because it's a high quality French sensor it doesn't need as a much processing, which improves battery life and creates a better image... That and it's 50Hz refresh rate! A side by side comparison would show you. Pricewise in the UK £5590 vs £4800.

BillyYoung i have been to a Demo recently in the SW of england and looked though both of these units and others, as I was questioning the same, as I am looking to upgrade from my Accoldaes XP50s, but there is a Big Diference between the units Habrok pros and Mergers, I firstly looked at the habrok, as there stand was as less busy at the time, yes the habroks feel like a normal pair of binos and yes it has Thermal, day, night, etc, But boy are they heavy! I thought what a unit to have all these features in... BUT! when you actually look into the specs of the Habrok, they are not as superior to the Mergers, despite it saying so on paper, the Day channel was very laggy and seem to have a delay when scanning from left to right this was the same on the Thermal channel as well as giving a very cartoony image also, it almost seems like the habroks are running to hard by software or something and cant keep up with it, if you scan to quick, it would make you feel kind of sea sick. if you stood still looking over one area they work great. Whereas the Mergers XT50s, yes it is only a Thermal with LRF, which is a downside for most, but the thermal image is much shaprer and more of a life like image, over a cartoony slow image from HIK, I just don't understand that on paper the habroks are better than the Pulsar, but when you get them in you hands Pulsar still seem to have the edge in my opinion, id be interested to know where both Pulsar and Hik get there specs from, as something doesn't add up to me, can anyone else share any light?

@@Countryoutdoorsmankeith Great tip to test them out for yourself - we've loads of demo's planned, where you can talk to our experts too: thomasjacks.co.uk/events-calendar/#1707305968742-edef5ee3-4272

Wow they look a cracking bit of kit, and that stabilisation feature will be very useful 👍

Is there some sort of adapter to be able to run, say, AA batteries in a pinch?
@thomasjacksltd3 ай бұрын
No. But it's easy to swap on a spare Pulsar battery if you own one... or you could plug in a small power bank (if you can gaffa-tape it somewhere safe / where it will cope with the recoil of your rifle)

Thank you. It would be nice to see the comparison between Pulsar Telos XG50 and the Pulsar Axtion 2 XG35. On paper they are equal. So how mutch better is 50 vs 35. Im happy with the XG35, but the upgradability on the Telos may be nice to have, cheaper to upgrade.

I can think about that for a future video (and you've now got 3 options for that XG sensor: 30mm, 35mm and 50mm) . On paper a bigger lens will deliver more info to the sensor, so the image will be improved, and amplified by the bigger base mag on the Telos. But the Telos does have a narrower field of view and it is a bit bulkier. There are quite a few things there to weigh up, so it's all down to which features you want to prioritise.

@@thomasjacksltd Thank you! If you have the time, i was wondering on your personal toughts on the XG35 / XG50 vs the Hikmicro CQ35L or CQ50L. Mutch better mk values on the hik, but less battery power. Its tempting. But im afraid the experience is less than pulsar, even though the specs looks better.

@@Andreas-xm8it I believe the difference in battery power is down to the extra image processing the Chinese made Hikmicro has to do. Pulsar use high quality French Lynred sensors: It does make them more expensive... but explains why they hold their value. Find a retailer that sells both / or attend an event where you can test them for yourself (as close as possible to the kind of scenario that you plan to use them in).
