I’ve got some frost damaged bricks in my garden wall and that is why I was here to look at this particular tool. The video seems to suggest it would be ideal for removing the mortar, but not much else. May consider buying one to compare it against the other tools that I’ve got for removing mortar e.g. mortar rake for the angle grinder and also a mortar rake for the hammer drill, with the latter obviously only being on hammer action.

Are you going to repair it yourself Shane or get it repaired by someone? Or, would another gearbox be the way to go mate? There's always something mate, my van cost £3700 to get sorted last week : (

I'm not sure. I've got a lot on the go and lined up, waiting to get going. I don't know if I want to add to the list. But if I could get the bearing, I'd just pull the gearbox and rebuild the diff. It's only a little one, not like the diffs I've rebuilt on my delicas them things are heavy and a fair amount of work just to get out from under the car. It's half a days work to get this out and swap it. I'll see I'm not that in love with this car, not like my delicas

@@smithbuilt The head gasket blew, then a crack was found in the head itself when tested under pressure, new head plus skimmed, valve work, new timing belt and water pump, a slight modification to the new head, oil, oil filter, coolant, diesel leak fixed and new glow plugs and a new battery. That's about the most of it. Garage prices ain't cheap mate, I was so close to scrapping it tbh. I trust that garage more than others I've been to in the past, so I'm hoping all is good, they've been good in the past (prices edging on the higher end at times but not always) and other folk wait for work from them as going elsewhere can be dodgy.

Hi Shane, great vid mate. Couldn't hep but notice the battery, what size, CCA, brand are you running there? And has that freed up enough space to do a fuel filter change with out having to remove the battery too?... Also wondering if you would do a vid on how to do a major/full coolant system flush and how to bleed properly too? I like the bleed tap you installed as well, very nice touch!
@smithbuilt

I think CCA is 1100 and it's a 125ah. Can't remember the make. Yes you can swap out the filter with it in place. You might get sore knuckles but you can do it. If I find myself filming next time I need to bleed the system I'll get it on film

@smithbuilt
@smithbuilt Ай бұрын
Yeah, replacing the timing chain would be a good idea, but, I my opinion, it's best to remove the front cover to do so. I was told you can split the old chain and join it to the new one and pull it through but, I feel there is far to much opportunity for something to go wrong. So I'd remove the bumper, grill, radiators ect then take the timing cover off. You can leave the engine in place and not move the timing and not risk any unforseen issues you might cause you're self. Thanks for watching BTW

@smithbuilt
@smithbuilt 4 ай бұрын
I found that it's actually better to keep the feed tube cool to help stop blocking. The heating and cooling just causes crudd to accumulate in the tubes, but the extra heat can help the oil to burn better, it depends on if you're willing to keep cleaning it out vs having to get more heat in the chamber for start up

That's looking decent now Shane, my recommendation would be to get on and start using the workshop and you'll find where things should be once you're using it, you'll probably end up moving stuff around in there anyway. I had all my tooling in little metal Bisley draw sets, I found the 5 draw sets best as the taller sets tend to bow out and start to drop the draws, my new draws came from a local military contractors factory they were throwing them and there contents away into skips, a friend saved a dozen or so including huge amounts of tooling and he gave me these 2 as he ran out of room... I am absolutely delighted with them, only downside. I wish I had another one 😕

@mikebryan544 my Colchester needs a strip down. I got it from a dealer who took it in part, ex. I've had a fair few issues pop up over the years with it, but I just did what was needed to keep it going as I didn't have the space to pull it all apart. So that's a job on my to do list. My union tool and cutter grinder is a similar thing. I got it in as is condition and just made use of it my biggest problem with the grinder is the head is just a frankenfitted bench grinder motor, I've always wanted to make a proper mounted pulley and spindel with a separate motor. There's just so many things I need to do and now have the space to do it! I'm bitting at the bitt every day wanting to get up and running again... I'm looking at for a mk2 roundhead triumph lathe long bed, I found my student lathe a little small and I know a master will end up to small for something so I figured a long bed triumph would be perfect, I do like the old chipmasters that triangular shape is interesting

That's coming along nicely now, good score on the lights, they do the job well and were a good price too. If I were you, I'd definitely fit another row down the middle, I have two rows in my workshop and it's still not enough light, I find you can never have enough light when you're trying to fix something. Wall cladding makes the place look nice and clean - are you going to paint the walls too? Cheers

Hello mate. I'm happy you think so, to me it just feels like it's taking forever. Totally agree with you on never having enough light, I'm planning on 2 flexible working lights at each machine but I think a 3rd row will offset the shadows and balance it nicely at the same time. Yep I'll be painting it. I want a wipe clean paint but I'm not sure what primer will stick to ply and let me use gloss? The big job now is to move my original machines down to this workshop to try and work out a floor plan. What's going to make it hard is my old shed has a 12" step to navigate down. I'll probably make a ramp or something Really appreciate the feedback Thanks for watching
@coplandjason
@coplandjason 5 ай бұрын
I know that feeling, it seems to take an age to get anywhere when you're working on a project like that but you're making good progress. When I painted my shed interior (8x4 18mm plywood sheets) I used white emulsion paint - Leyland Trade stuff from Screwfix. It stuck nicely to the sheets and still looks OK, I didn't bother with gloss but the wipe-clean idea is a good one. If I did it again I think I'd do that, the wall behind my lathe shows a nice oil line where oil gets thrown off the chuck onto the wall :-) Moving machines from your old workshop will be fun, I suppose it depends what you've got to move but I think a ramp is a good idea, unless you've got access to something like a tele handler - I live on a farm and the farmer has been very helpful using the tele handler to lift things like my surface grinder, Bridgeport mill and my lathe, I would have been stuck without that or it would have taken me forever to move them using rollers and levers. Good luck!
