Shane for cheapness while experimenting use old bean tin and metal rules for stirrer 3 cm paint 3mm thinner, please get a suitable mask It’ll do you’re lungs no good at all, good luck 👍

I have a mask I just didnt think I would get that into it. The ruler idea is great btw hadn't even considered just measuring in cm and mm instead of litres and ml. Very ingenious lol

I use the 1.4 for all my painting , I paint lots of plant , diggers dumpers etc. Dont overdo the thinners, I use thinners rather than white spirits.

Is there a real difference between thinners and white spirits? I figured I use white spirits to clean up my brushes between coats so why not try it as a cheap thinner. I take it that the larger nozzle the thicker the paint it can spray? I was thinking I'll have to get loads of different bits and special mixing things and god knows what else.... if I had known it was going to be this straight forward I would have looked into it long ago, I'll most likely only ever spray red oxide and enamel so if I only need a 1.4mm nozzle then that's a bonus, cheers dude

@@smithbuilt if find it flashes off much quicker, some might disagree but it works for me , also dont leave your primer too long before top coat . I usually finish coat when primer is just touch dry.

@@alanmartin8786 I had been due to hand painting it all, waiting for each coat to dry fully or at least over night. But now with spraying it on if I can put more then one coat a day that will save loads of time waiting for each coat to dry then rubbing it down and re coating it each time.

@@smithbuilt just to be clear , I'm not looking for 'car bodywork' finish but with synthetic enamel you can get a nice shine and it's pretty forgiving, I tend to not over thin and run a slightly higher pressure. Little bit more overspray but I use a lot if yellow and the pigment is pretty thin ,opaque , so a slightly heavier mix give me better coverage especially on the second coat.

@@alanmartin8786 I get ya, I did achieve a ridiculously high end finish on my milling machine but thinking about it now. I hardly ever clean it and even when I do it's a vacuum down and maybe an oily rag to wipe it over. So all the effort I put in is never appreciated by me as I'm not a tidy workshop kinda guy. The only reason I want a good "ish" Finnish is for KZbin.... people love shiny things lol. I'll spend some time playing with viscosity and application on afew different projects, you never know I might even find a happy medium before I run out of machines to rebuild. I have 6 right now....

Easy peasy, you're like a duck to water mate.

It's a lot faster and gave a super even coat, only thing is now I need to work out how many coats it'll need to get a good wear resistant covering. Dont know about a duck maybe an old crow.

@@smithbuilt lol. What I do on awkward shapes like you are on is 2-3 coats with as little thinner as possible, 10 min between coats, this gives a thick lumpy coat that you won't get runs in but looks horrible, 10 min later I'll come back and hit it with 1 coat really thinned down like water and that blends the build up coats and gives a nice flat finish. It's good to inspect between coats with a torch so you are aware which bits you are missing. When you do the final wet coat you just want to do one piece at a time so you don't make anything else dusty with over spray but 1k is pretty forgiving. The only downside of going on really thick is drying time, it's not like the 2k paints that are much harder and stop being flexible when really thick but as you already know drying time is the biggest downside of this stuff anyway and if you stick it on 1/8" thick it'll still be soft in June.

@@smithbuilt feel like a c#nt for not doing you a little vidy, just threw some paint on my dumper wheels, we're using the same perfectly functional budget gun and everything but you figure stuff out pretty quick.

@@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006 so I'll tell you a secret.... you're actually the reason why I started making my KZbin videos..... so if you're going to feel bad about something, think of all the people who have to put up with me now lol.

@@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006 good pointers on the coat build ups and not painting lots of bits at once. I'd not really thought of dusting my parts with the over spray. This rebuild seems like it's taking longer then when I did my mill. But I wonder if filming it then editing it just makes it feel longer because you're seeing you're self do it 3 or 4 times?
