I’m sorry but this to me proves why the Jim Carrey movie is the best film adaptation of the Grinch, by a mile. The original special was pretty good as a straight adaptation of the book. The Carrey movie actually took risks, it didn’t take itself too seriously because…come on, the whole premise is kind of silly, so why not have fun with it? And yet, despite all the wacky adult humor, the movie had soul. The Grinch actually had a reason to hate Christmas. Cindy Lou was far more involved in the story. They tried something different instead of playing it safe, and for many people, that’s what makes it so great. With that said, I can understand if it’s too far out there for the traditionalists, and that’s why we have the original cartoon. Both movies have their place, and both serve a purpose. None of that can be said for the 2018 movie. It’s the exact opposite of the Carrey movie in every way. There’s no soul, no meaningful additions to justify its existence. This whole movie feels like it was a “take that!” to the Jim Carrey film, and as I said at the top, I believe it actually proves what a misunderstood masterpiece Grinch 2000 was. This is what you get when you try to play it safe.

I always loved the animated show a lot. It was genuinely hilarious and had fun characters way more than the movie itself ever did.

You know how certain movies are hyped up to be so good that people ending up being underwhelmed by them if not hating them outright? This shows it’s also possible to be underwhelmed by movies that are hyped up to be the worst thing ever!

The Jim Carrey Grinch burned an entire Christmas tree. Dr Strange Grinch tried and failed to throw a snowball at a tree :/

The one thing he forgot to mention was the fact that this movie was also ripping off Cars. Right down to having some actors from the film and even having the same premise of having the main character get stuck in a place that was abandoned for years. Hell, they even say how the place go put back on the map!

Funny enough in the Jim Carrey version. We still don't know why he hates Christmas. As a baby to kid he disliked Santa and drew him being shot down. It wasn't until the Whos made fun of him where he solidifies his hatred towards the holiday and the Whos themselves

Gotta say, Tintin was leagues above this, like this ranking will indicate later. The pacing was a little overdrive, but that is preferable to Always' dull tone. Tintin flew through a storm with a Scotish sailor who fought with a psycho using a crane, and Haddock's ancestor fought pirates from a ship that hung over his! And it managed to make the cliche "we will meet again" scene fresh and epic! What does Always have? Little more than some confusing directions and really boring scenes.
