Thanks to the magic of hyperlinks, you can do a hybrid. By default they get the highlights reel, but then, thanks to the magic and justice of hyperlinks, navigation design, and info hierarchy - you can delight your readers with all the depth and detail even the most demanding, discerning and nit-picky potential coworker could want to know about your project. i.e. design your portfolio like it is a product, to meets the needs of your users.

I love this suggestion! I've had several folks do this, but they're usually the ones who have familiarity / more experience with coding or information design. Most of the new folks are still struggling to get AN effective case study up. Really appreciate your insights!
