hi my gerbil got sick. She just lies there with his eyes half open, and when she walks, he twists the back of his body. Would you be able to tell us what to do because there is no veterinarian in my area who would treat rodents. I haven't seen her drink or eat yet, and she lets herself be petted for a long time, even when she ran away in the past. (I have a friendly relationship with her and she trusts me, so she was walking on my hands). She is 2 soon as well.

I have a question so I’m getting two gerbils soon and I have a small cage, not terribly small but a little smaller than the recommended one. I was wondering if I let them out daily like in a play pin or so would they be fine?? (Temporary till I get a new cage or tank)❤
@finsandwhiskers26 күн бұрын
Is it possible that you can wait to get them until you have the right enclosure? If not, and it’s temporary, then I think it’d be fine to have them there-I wouldn't recommend taking them out though because they will be new to you, and intimidated. You should at least wait two days before trying to introduce yourself to them! ♥️

I have a question about gerbils, so my gerbil has this weird lump on his back, the one day when he was eating I was touching his back and I felt his spine, it looks nowhere near like the back of a normal gerbil, but nothing else is going on, it's been there since we got him, but like I said it feels like it's part of his spine so I don't know if that's just how his back looks or if there's something else going on Edit: I just realized that this is from 4 years ago but if anyone knows about this please explain
@finsandwhiskersАй бұрын
I recommend going to a vet for sure.
@CecegoosegirlАй бұрын
@@finsandwhiskers what do you think it could be though? Like I said there hasn't been anything else wrong with him, infact he looks healthy, he's been active and his eyes look fine (I say that because I obviously had two gerbils but their eyes started closing more and more until we brought them to the vet and they didn't make it), the only thing that might be a problem is the fact that he's by himself now, we've been trying to find another gerbil but we haven't been able to because the ones we found were either sick or taken, it's going to the point where he starts throwing himself at the lid of his tank when he wants my attention, other than that he has a good size of tank and plenty of stuff to entertain himself, like I said he's not really depressed or anything he's really active, but whenever he's lonely he tries to make noise to get my attention
@finsandwhiskersАй бұрын
@@Cecegoosegirl I can’t be certain, so that’s why it’s important to see a vet. If it’s unusual, and it wasn’t like that before, it is always a good thing to get it checked out. It could become too late otherwise
@CecegoosegirlАй бұрын
@@finsandwhiskers it looks the same as it has when we got him, I felt his back again and it didn't seem to hurt him, it felt like it was his skin, like his spine was sticking out or something, we're going to take him to the vet (hopefully), but I don't want to ask my mom if we can go to the store for the 3rd time, but I will as soon as possible

I know this is a slightly older video, but thank you so much for sharing this. My partner and I got two lovely gerbils 2 years ago and finding videos about gerbils and gerbil care, especially as they get older and having such a close bond with them, has been hard to come across! I just discovered your channel and I can't wait to watch more of your other content to learn more about ways to give my gerbils the best life. I never knew how unique and special gerbils really are, and I am so thankful they came into my life. It is so clear how much you loved your little fur babies, and they lived an amazing and fulfilling life with you. I hope you continue your journey of teaching about and sharing the love for these amazing creatures! You have made a wonderful difference. <3

I can appreciate the difficulty of having limited care information for a rodent. I've rescued and kept a certain rare "pet" rodent species (I don't think they should be pets) for two decades. Unfortunately there is so little scientific or otherwise evidence-based information out there to draw on for proper diet in captivity that the internet is fraught with misinformation leading the majority of captive individuals to develop painful and often deadly dental disease. There are people who have gone deep enough into research to develop a healthy diet for this species, but that community that I'm a part of is all but drowned-out by the masses of incorrect information. I don't like to advertise them on the internet because I would hate for someone to hear about them from me and go and buy them, so forgive my crypticity😅
