I've recently learned that the napping system of sleeping is known as "polyphasic sleep" 😊 According to research into thermoregulation that I've recently come across, they also vary their above ground activity according to temperature, so they tend to wait until after sundown in the summer to come out of their burrows when the temperature has cooled down, but in the winter they wait until a few hours after sunrise to come out once the sun has warmed the air, so they're up and about more often during the day in the cooler months apparently ☺️ Just a couple of fun facts that I thought you may find interesting 😄

So interesting! I live in a hot climate and they come out no matter the season but I am sure this especially applies for drastic weather change!

@@finsandwhiskers I find it fascinating too! ☺️ I see my gerbs year round too, but I've definitely noticed as the temperature gets colder they come out more frequently in the middle part of the day as opposed to the start and end like they did in the heat, but the differences are probably much less pronounced than with the wild guys who sometimes have to deal with -20°C temperatures! Poor little frozen gerbs 😅❄️

I haven't had gerbils since I was a young kid, but I love the idea of recreating their natural habitat with dirt & rocks after doing something similar with fish & plants.

You described my hamsters perfectly. I have two (one in each of their own enclosure) and I definitely am their pet. Lol Learning more about gerbils. Definitely a dream animal. One day I for sure would love to have some. I enjoy the social aspect of them being together.

My baby just wants treats… Could you do a video on the facts of pairs and more and on bonding. Specifically for me I am wondering if I could bond a younger gerbil to one that is over a year.

My gerbils are active after 21:00 and during the night. They are not often visible during the day. I wonder why my gerbils prefer this schedule?

How much light gets into the room during the day?
@mariotorrecilla2543 жыл бұрын
@@finsandwhiskers Average light - there is a window by the side of the cage. The last trio of gerbils I had used to sleep on top of the floor and visible, but the current trio doesn't. I believe that this behaviour depends on the leader preferences. Could this be the case?

I'm aware that Gerbils chew through plastic BUT I have this huge Savic cage with tons of floor space but a plastic bottom, but the thing is the type of plastic its made of is super hard and solid plastic (in my opinion), so would it be okay to house them in there?

Hey Shine! I have a question! Is seagrass fiber safe for gerbils? I sea a lot of seagrass toys for rabbits, but can't find any info on gerbils. I want to get a seagrass mat for the gerbils to climb on. What do you think? Thank you!!! You're the best ))))

Quick question: can a gerbils enclosure be “too large” that it will cause a bonded pair to Declan or is that a myth. I just got the newest super large Niteangel enclosure (the one with the slanted lid) and was considering putting my bonded pair in it. The are already in a large square Niteangel which is great but I was thinking the added depth in the rear of the newest one would be great for tunnels. I just don’t want to upset the apple cart. You’re thoughts are greatly valued and appreciated.
@finsandwhiskers3 жыл бұрын
Of course I can only add to the conjecture, but I do believe a well filled space in any size larger than the bare minimum won’t have a negative impact on gerbils or add chance to declan. By well filled I mean very enriched, as to avoid unfairness. There are other small things I do to avoid them picking a side, like sprinkling their food around instead of a bowl so they can’t hoard it. I make sure they each get a treat from my hand so they don’t try and get another gerbil’s before seeing there’s one for them too.
