Not really a trilogy. CODE: Veronica and Zero exist, are main entries, and add on to the story that those three titles were establishing. So really, that first era of the series before Resident Evil 4 soft-rebooted the series was more of a pentalogy than anything.

The original version of Resident Evil hasn't held up, but Resident Evil 2 and 3: Nemesis most certainly _do._ These two games made me a horror fan, and they honestly still hold up, warts and all. Sure to an outsider looking in, the tank controls seem ridiculous, but in the context of the fixed camera angles and deliberate pace the games go for, they work like a charm. And the Resident Evil 1 Remake is honestly even better.

The flood scared me so much as a kid. I played Halo on the original Xbox as a kid with my brother on split-screen. We played the whole game together, and 343 Guilty Spark scared us good. The lack of music, tons of dead bodies, and seeing Master Chief actually look scared were terrifying. Pretty sure I got nightmares from seeing Keyes as a proto-gravemind. I remember as a kid seeing Halo 3 at Walmart and thinking “There’s a Halo 2 AND a Halo 3??”

I haven't played Resident Evil in 10 years, but have very distinct memories of it. Around 5-8 years old I'd have been playing it, and I had nightmares, every.... SINGLE... NIGHT! Legitimately like a week or two straight until eventually my parents had taken it and put it in the cabinet top shelf in our kitchen. It's so vivid, I remember that I was in like a zoo, or some large place where animals would walk through. Zombie dogs tigers and stuff, elephants I think as well. Never got too far before quitting. I wish I could say which one it was, it was on Playstation 2, I just remember the cover had like a purple disgusting eyeball with surrounding skin zombie looking, and the aforementioned animals in like a zoo or something. I know we must still have it and I have to search bins, and for now I'd appreciate knowing its name if someone does, ha. Also could be misremembering exact details And Ben, could you cover Amnesia the Dark Decent perhaps, and by extension Frictional Games' former franchise Penumbra. Your coverage of this genre is very good, and they would equally make for great entertainment here

As another commenter says, that's Outbreak File 2. It and its predecessor are cracking games but they're a little unwieldy in the present and I'd love them both to get a modern reimagining. Thanks for the kind words and the suggestion too! I was actually talking on stream last night about doing a horror game live next, with the intention of recording footage at the same time for a video after. I think I might do the The Dark Descent, as I've wanted to write about it ever since I first played it.

RE3 is my favorite. Close as second as my favorite of all time. I replay it several times per year and I'm still enjoying it. I'm happy that they release those PC ports but sadly they are bare bones. Or I can say it about the first because it's the only one released by now. Try to change the keybinds and you know what I mean. They should have made these the definitive editions not square one.

Don't expect much from GOG's RE2 and RE3 Nemesis releases. These are just the original pc ports only made to work on modern pcs using a wrapper. It's up to you to install patches/mods to actually "remaster" them. As far as I can tell, there wasn't any additional content for pc RE2 and RE3 Nemesis. RE3 Nemesis has the extra Jill costumes and Mercenaries mode unlocked from the get go. It seems the GameCube ports of RE2 and RE3 Nemesis are considered the best ones, especially if you use the fan made HD Remaster mods on a GameCube emulator. But yeah, the RE classic Trilogy deserves better than this and should've gotten actually remastered like the original PS1 Tomb Raider Trilogy. Got a bad feeling a barebones GOG pc release is how we're going to get Dino Crisis 1&2 too. Both did have pc ports, but I don't think anything was added to them.

The first Resident Evil on PS1 was one of my favourite games as a kid & still today, I replayed that original trilogy more times than I can count. The remakes are great & I'm happy they were made, but there's still a special quality the classic versions possess. RE1 remake is the best of both worlds. Updated graphics & enhanced atmosphere while retaining that old school fixed camera/tank control gameplay. For me that's the best of the entire series. Thanks for the quality content Ben & have a great day.

Love this! Before I became a Halo fan, and before I started making Halo LASO walkthroughs, I was a Resident Evil addict. I used to speedrun the OG RE3 on the hardest setting on a daily basis just for fun. My best time was one hour and 26 minutes. This was before the days of KZbin. I sense a theme here. You love the Flood from Halo. You love Resident Evil. If you haven’t already looked into it, you might enjoy exploring the Scourge from Warcraft, an undead army that draws some comparisons to the Flood. Would be really interested in hearing your take! Always enjoy your videos, and thank you for all of your hard work 🙂

Wanted these excellent games to receive the same remaster treatment Aspyr gave Tomb Raider Trilogy. That's not what we got at all here on GOG. My theory is that the flood facility functions similar to a Faraday cage to prevent electromagnetic signals from leaving it. This is why communication was impossible, considering the level of physics research the Forerunners were probably capable of. Furthermore, the covenant probably maintained an extensive garrison there, since it was a very important part of the installation. I am genuinely unsure if the swamp outside has Flood biology, but the facility is rather concealed from the air by the swamp. I’m not sure to whose benefit, but I’m also sure that everything was revealed at the cartographer, which is very confusing as to why they did not know about this. I do believe that the covenant had to send a lot of reinforcements to contain this area me if I’m not mistaken to to as well as his military staff would realize the extreme importance of containing the flood and an attempt to wipe them out (hence “bad ass elite unit”). However, they were not exactly sure that they were engaging with humans, and I’m sure that the flood found a way out of the multiple entrances. Since the flood was already out of the facility when Chief arrived, i’m also sure that the flood was quickly expanding its territory on the ring and acquiring heavy equipment all the time.

I think the Covenant being within the facility was nothing more than them being ordered to lock it down until a spec-ops team could be deployed. It's interesting that there are no Elites among them which means that either every single one of them were assimilated or a couple escaped and gave orders to the fodder while they called for reinforcements as seen by the downed Spirit. So what likely happened is that the Covenant found the Flood (as referenced in the end of AotCR), tried to contain it but just scattered through the facility, Johnson and his squad then fought through that set of enemies only to be ambushed by the Flood after Keyes and second squad arrived. The pelican could've been downed by say a rocket flood on the ground as well as the Spirit that dropped the remaining covenant reinforcements that went in after the first group and after the humans infiltrated in a poor attempt at some sort of quarantine while the Elites in the chain of command figure out what to do and Master Chief comes bumbling in unknowingly eliminating any leftover resistance the Flood had. Not that any resistance mattered anyway because the Flood was in control the entire time after they were released and were simply letting the survivors live so that higher value prey such as officers, commandos and possibly even a Spartan shows up.

I feel like the unexplained props/bullet holes in the cutscenes are a result of in-engine cutscenes. It's more efficient to reuse the same bsp/textures than swap them out. When you consider that Halo was originally released at a time where games were rendered at low resolutions and most people were playing on CRTs, it's likely that Bungie figured most people wouldn't notice and thus didnt spend the time/resources to create clean versions for some short cutscenes.
