Oh dear, and it all started off so positively. Pleased you sorted out the rattle. Remi looks very laid back...im sure with a bit more time (and money) spent on it you will both get it running more reliably. I'm hoping this won't be the last i see of this lovely Herald, but I have an inkling its days are numbered.

Hi Alex, my Triumph has the same engine as yours. Feel free to have a nose under the bonnet of my car is you want to compare it, as my car runs very nicely (I think).

Hi Alex, another day in "Nightmare on Herald Street", will it ever be right? 😄 That ending was a bit wicked...😀 To be fair the Triumph Herald range never were a cast iron favourite, both noisy and rattley, all the ones I rode in always felt insecure, half expected them to fall apart whilst in motion like a circus clown's car...good luck with it... Amazing how these old cars were constructed. A fire under the bonnet and all that stops any ingress of flames is a fibre gearbox cowl. Shame it got damaged during the dismantling procedure. Glad you can get all these bits for it still.

Is it time for you to throw that carb as far as you can and fit a SU yet?

you tend to find that in older cars they get used to being one way and when you "fix" it they start making other things go wrong........ cranky buggers lol and you have the eternal shed garage problem of all flat surfaces full of stuff just set the carb up and it will probably play now... you're always chasing the last bodge... that's the fun lol

So you have a floppy knob as well 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

To improve the seal on your door windows (Top/rear) pull the seal off and give the body flange a few taps with a copper or plastic mallet to position the seal further outward. Taper the adjustment upwards from about half way up. More adjustment at top. Don't overdo it. You may also benefit from a small adjustment across the top so the seal is even. If the window scraper across the top of the door has gone hard and stiff, replace. That will improve all of the reasons it's there for.

Don't pump the throttle pedal with SU or Stromberg. Set the choke to get high idle and start engine. Sounds like fouled plugs. Bin the Champions and get the correct NGK's. Beware fake ones of these that are cheap on the bay. Carb will need to be set up again after all of the previous adjustments being wrong. Do it by the book. You may need the special tools to set/adjust jet and centralise needle.

Good to see the HHHH getting some love! There an adjuster grubscrew and nut on the lower end of the gear lever for reverse. You have to adjust it to a set position for it to work correctly, once done to engage reverse gear you should have to push the gearstick down into the housing and then across into gear 👍

Nice to see the herald getting a bit of love , poor old thing bless it. When was you're house built ? , 70s ?, im guessing the marina goes with the house , in period the best ?. My childhood home was built out of that same light brick . Ha ha , the ending .

had a washer missing on my stromberg as well. it took me ages to find out how the components fit together for lack of a useful diagram. furthermore needle centering is another difficult issue. spent ages trying to set up the carb correctly. find su carbs much simpler and easier to service.

Don’t trust the quality of the gearshift kits they sell these days, very poor quality plastics… Check out the recent GT6 transmission video from Elin Yakov / Rusty Beauties in Canada… he threw away half the bits and either remade some or reused the originals in preference…. He also just did. Stromberg carb rebuild video so no excuses now !

Do you know what happened to the place you used to live? Did they knock it down in the end and did the man with the Mercedes move out?

Amazed the car ran with parts of the carb missing. Shame its not running any better with carb back together. Great improvement with the gearstick and door rubbers.

I am now absolutely convinced that our Alex has a raging hammer fetish. The Herald is a NICE car Alex, please be gentle with it, I am sure it will respond well. I always enjoy these videos.

Kind of reminds me of the time when I was coming home one evening from seeing my cousin in Reading. On the side of the road was a man with some smoke coming from under bonnet. I stopped to see if he needed any help, just then flames started to engulf his car. His reply was can I get his phone out his car. My answer was no, I will phone the fire brigade, but noway am I going to kill myself. Pity he didn't have one of these. Excellent idea an happy new year!
