The last 3-4 minutes of this show was insane. Incredible baritones and melos. The power of the G bugle was so much more raw and nasty. Miss that wall of sound!!

I’m not one to complain too much about the current state of drum corps, but this show is as entertaining as it gets! Strawberry Soup took over a third of the show, whereas today’s shotgun style music you’ll get 5 notes and move on. I do appreciate this years Madison closer, it’s got a little bit of that Madison soul in it :).

I agree. I sound like a broken record on here but today's shows are just awful. The kids work hard, incredibly talented but the music and the sound of the music, my gosh, I can't even discern what they're playing. And drumlines, if the corps played the National Anthem, the drumline would be ramming as many notes at 160bpm as they could. SMH

Given the conditions this is one of the greatest DCI performances ever recorded. The totally spontaneous connection between the crowd and the corps, everyone enduring the rain together & ending with an underrated Madison ballad closer in the tradition of Ice Castles and The Way We Were. Never will we see or hear the likes of this again.

I remember watching 1993 DCI at a Hyatt Regency because only the top 6 were being broadcast live. We watched the bottom 6 at the hotel, then there was a break before the top 6 started. I remember an audible gasps from people around me when we saw the rain pouring down on the Scouts. Scouts were incredible and their 1993 show is still one of my all time favorite DCI Shows. Maybe the rain made it even more exciting.

Like anything else, the old stuff will never get old to the older folk… Madison Corps, regardless of years, will always try to entertain while giving kids in the program(s), a good experience. My musical knowledge was catapulted by marching corps, and my work ethic was also enhanced. I almost say this sheepishly, but in 2027, it’ll be 30 years since I aged out… but the memories are strong and these videos are historic treasures for those who were involved. Politics now within the activity, putting them and my opinion aside, I hope todays youth can appreciate the thousands of feet, upon thousands of feet, both participant and fan, that came before you so you could march today. Please keep the activity going, no matter where you march or how you are involved. (getting off my box now…)

I agree completely. That is my biggest gripe about today's DCI. The brass section seems flat and dull to me. There are several moments in this show when the percussion line is in front of the brass when the brass section comes back in and hits a push and they would absolutely give me goosebumps.

1993 Madison Scouts drum break, since I first heard it as a 14 year old freshman, in 1994, marching in my first drum line, playing bass 1, is still my favorite of all time!!! Not to mention the dedication to march in an all male corp, after all they never got to say, "this one time at band camp..." And if they did, well good for them!!!

Can people sight read tenor music like this at this speed? I play trumpet and I can't follow the notes that fast.
@billn911
@billn911 3 жыл бұрын
generally not, most players will study each bar at first for sticking patterns, dynamics, in this case special accessories as well as drum placement and then you can site read based upon muscle memory of each bar after that. That said, I'm sure there is someone out there who can read all the above at the speed of light :-)
