What a great show. How I miss real drum corps. One of my favorite shows. Awesome drum break in Strawberry Soup and the soprano quartet at 8:05 is fantastic!! No need for fancy props or amps here. Just pure excitement

I was there that night. I assume this is finals night. The sky opened up as Madison warmed up on the field. When they hit their first big note of the opener, the crowd went nuts! It was so hot that week. 90's. Golden age of drum corps.

I recorded this from PBS onto VHS when I was a kid. I watched the the ever living hell out of this finals. I swear i can even remember the crowd shouts, they're like a part of each show for me.

This show is my favorite of all time! Madison Scouts, getting it done baby! We never got to do this one for a show at school, but we did get to use Malaguena one year. That one rocks too! We played the 1980 version. It was so friggin awesome! I miss the opportunity to play SO MUCH. Thank you for posting this video!!!

Given the conditions this is one of the greatest DCI performances ever recorded. The totally spontaneous connection between the crowd and the corps, everyone enduring the rain together & ending with an underrated Madison ballad closer in the tradition of Ice Castles and The Way We Were. Never will we see or hear the likes of this again.

I remember watching 1993 DCI at a Hyatt Regency because only the top 6 were being broadcast live. We watched the bottom 6 at the hotel, then there was a break before the top 6 started. I remember an audible gasps from people around me when we saw the rain pouring down on the Scouts. Scouts were incredible and their 1993 show is still one of my all time favorite DCI Shows. Maybe the rain made it even more exciting.

Just a quick reminder, that moments before Madison stepped off it absolutely lets loose with about 10 minutes of torrential rain. It was wild and created a very unique bond with the crowd that night.

And DCI never went back to Louisiana again lol. Can't say that I blame them, bad karma! The only better one was in Orlando when Magic got drowned by rain in semis on and they kept going WITH sunglasses on.

This was my rookie year. I marched 2nd sop. Great summer. Soooo hot and humid in August. I loved this show. Great group of guys. I almost wiped out during the closer on a direction change because of the rain. Thank God, I stayed on my feet. My show went perfect until that moment.

Amazing performance and solidified my dream to march Scouts which would be realized just one year later. Drove down to Mississippi to watch these finals and they killed it in a downpour. Man I love this show, more keks than the rest of the top 12 combined!

1993 Madison Scouts drum break, since I first heard it as a 14 year old freshman, in 1994, marching in my first drum line, playing bass 1, is still my favorite of all time!!! Not to mention the dedication to march in an all male corp, after all they never got to say, "this one time at band camp..." And if they did, well good for them!!!

I’m not one to complain too much about the current state of drum corps, but this show is as entertaining as it gets! Strawberry Soup took over a third of the show, whereas today’s shotgun style music you’ll get 5 notes and move on. I do appreciate this years Madison closer, it’s got a little bit of that Madison soul in it :).
@JohnSmith-zi9or6 ай бұрын
I agree. I sound like a broken record on here but today's shows are just awful. The kids work hard, incredibly talented but the music and the sound of the music, my gosh, I can't even discern what they're playing. And drumlines, if the corps played the National Anthem, the drumline would be ramming as many notes at 160bpm as they could. SMH

I was one of the folks that recruited DCI to Mississippi for the World Championships... I know it was Hot as Hell but this was an unbelievable time for all.... BTW... that football field was used by Walter Payton, Steve McNair and hundreds of other NFL studs from Mississippi. Nice to have added another FEAT to Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium!!!!

@@neilpalmer5577 You are of course entitled to your own opinion. I prefer Madison's because it was an entire Corps effort and it was just more emotional. AND, I marched DCI in 83 and I got to listen to enjoy Madison's 83 version as well. Out of the two years......it's close, but for some reason I just prefer 93's version from Madison. It's what I call pure entertainment.

Literally no one has ever said 93 was a bad year for Drum Corps. All-Time great Cadets and Star shows. A crazy BD Hornline. A classic PR with spinning crab wedge. This rain drenched emotional Finals run, etc.
@OK-bk1qh5 жыл бұрын
The ones who said it was a bad year for drum corps were in drum corps that year, and made the comment during the season, I was there, they didn't have the same opinion by the end of the season, we got our rear ends handed to us a lot that season, sometimes by the staff, other times, the heat, lack of sleep, and of course the top 5.
@jared01114 жыл бұрын
@@BKSledge i've heard a bunch of people complain about 93 over the years for sure. and you guys both listed the top 4 and stopped there. the top 4 is practically always great. a lot of corps did have pretty forgettable shows, relatively speaking, and i'd say 92 was much stronger overall. it seems like a lot of folks have complained about jackson as a finals site. you can't predict the weather, and outdoor drum corps is a special and important thing, but finals week drum corps and the south are a tough combo. i kinda feel like vk should've been in over colts that year too
