I’m 66 years old I have an L5 S1 spondylolisthesis with a herniated disc would I be a candidate for this procedure? It’s very interesting to me where you bore through a portion of the vertebral arch rather than cutting all the posterior arch thus maintaining the vast majority of the stability of the vertebral arch. it’s May 26, 2024. I’m shopping for a neurosurgeon who will perform this procedure, creating intervertebral height, improve stability, and decompression of the nerve roots for L-5 S-1. Hello KZbinrs, I am sharing my story hoping it will help someone. What they don’t tell you in these videos is that endoscopic surgery is NOT covered by health insurance (in the United States). I had to pay $30K for my procedure (May 2024). However it was more than worth it. I had to acquire the funds from my retirement account. Borrow the money if you need, you will be glad you did. Immediately after surgery, I was instantly and fully healed with no recovery time. Nor did I need any pain medication afterwards at all, whatsoever. It was money well spent.

The insurance coverage depends on individual's insurance package. My insurance plan has the coverage. I only paid up to the yearly max out of pocket amount (a few thousands $). I am in California, USA. I had my surgery done just 4 days ago. I am in recovery process which is estimated to be several weeks.

Also: The Dr's who do perform this surgery are very few.. That is because it takes special training. And the Dr's who do perform it in the Central / N. Jersey area ( none in S.Jersey or Phila. Area) none of them accept Medicare. I have contacted five different offices who perform it. I would prefer this type of surgery because I had trouble with scared tissue entrapping nerves now causing constant pain 24/7 after having a previous traditional fusion.

I don't understand. Bone is live tissue, so it will grow back, right? So, sooner or later one should get surgery again... how long does the relief last? I understand it depends by many facrors and varies from person to person... but, still, I'm very curious.

I had my L5-S1 Disk eruptured and had severe Inflammation and paralysis including Foot-drop, operated PELD at the end. I heard(aware) that PELD is operated by Endoscope - but didnt knew that it is likely more inserting a whole metal rod into my side lol. It was spectacle experience tho. Like, you know, i can tell my friends 'hey buddy, have you ever poked your butt by a whole half-meter metal rod? I do!'

The full-endoscopic technique is the least invasive approach in spine surgery. With less scaring and less tissue trauma, there are no reported complications in terms of scaring or tissue trauma. This approach also requires less bone drilling. As long as the bone structure is generally healthy, it will not cause instability.

Had spinal fusion at L5-S1. Ended up in worse shape. As scar tissue from the surgery entrapped the nerves. Ended up in constant pain 24/7, as opposed to pain when on my feet for four or more hours. Beware of fusions.

I just had my surgery. Before this i cant walk or sit. Cant even have a proper meal. It was like a nightmare. After the surgery, i can walk the next day. And sit normally. Im so glad i made the right decision. But ofcos i wear the lumbar back support. Helps alot!
