Yep, at 3 years old Fin would load the JMJ CD into the player on his own. Trying to find someone to teach him to play piano/keyboard at an early age was hard. Most thought it was a "phase" he was going through. We met some interesting people that had an impact on Fin's early musical education.

Ultravox Mark 1 for me, John Foxx's lyrics match the sonic invention and he gave them an authentic surrealist direction that was rather unsettling. Mark 2 sounds quite nice, I'm glad they went on but they feel kind of inconsequential, they sold way more though.

Synthesiser's causes baldness. Those Fairlight CMIs, Minu Moogs, Emulators, ARPs, DX7s and Jupiter 8s deforest the skull quicker than a Amazon rainforest. Ask Midge Ure, Vince Clarke, the Flock of Seagulls's Mike Score.

Why "Dark Glasses" was not on the "Human racing" tracklist, (only on a B-side), is a question I'll never have a clue. That track is too good to be a B-side, it should even have been released as a single, in my opinion.

Nik's first two albums were released within just a few months, so when "The riddle" appeared on the radios, many thought it was another single from the "Human racing" album... That might be the reason why his second album was a bit "in the shadow" of his first...

Thank you for this review! This is still their neglected masterpiece and my favorite album from them (with Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) a very close second). I keep praying and hoping that this will get a deluxe reissue someday that includes the 7" single edits and 12" mixes from the "Sexcrime" and "Julia" singles, unreleased material and the actual instrumental score used in the film that's only presently available as a bonus feature on the 1984 Blu-ray. 😎

I always really like this album. I thought the music far more suited the mood of the film. Although Sex Crime (1984) was a big hit I was surprised that Julia wasn't a hit too. I'm hoping that the album will be reissued one day with all the tracks off the singles that aren't on the original album. There's the 7" edit of Julia and there's extended mixes of Sex Crime (1984) and Ministry Of Love.
