this is pretty good. i like these details and love the hq position. 😍 you got kneecut, side smash, long steps high steps and so much you can do from there. the armpit grip/ frame is great and neutralizes a lot

I was going to ask this. I do both after watching Marcelo show them, but I feel more comfortable doing it with the cross arm while facing my opponent. There's a longer path to the back this way, and he can't punch my face as easily either because my body is in the way.

I'm trying to work out why he prefers to use the far arm to post on the ground and the near arm to maintain the post. Is it because then the angle allows him to hip escape towards the opponent rather than towards their free arm, which might be able to hold them in place? Or would it work just as well if done with the other arm? 2:08
@biscobisco1882
@biscobisco1882 3 күн бұрын
I thiiiiink it's because generally in a side control pin they are driving their chest down and across you (i.e. they're driving towards your far arm), if you try and elbow prop with the near arm it's easy for them to simply keep driving their shoulder/torso straight into your chest and put you back down on your back/into the pin. If you elbow prop on the FAR arm, their torso driving into you actually helps you to build onto the elbow rather than flattening you back down, THEN you have the leverage to pull your legs through and re-guard.

Good question, if you think about it if you frame with far arm it would be so hard to get to your elbow. To get the near arm to elbow youd have to go belly down with hand high above your head and try to prop up. They would then see your back which would be risky .

Yeah that was a game changer for me around purple belt. Also, I wouldn't claim I came up with it because I wouldn't be surprised if some other obsessed practitioner in the world thought of a similar solution to this problem, but I haven't met someone that deals with the de la riva in this way.
