god Tzimisce are so cool, how did they manage to take what should just be edge to an overdone extreme, and turn it into some of the most interesting lore in the series? i wish more series would look at things like this for examples when making something edgy or "gritty". you can have your edgy cake and eat it too, you just need to make it legitimately cool and put some effort in adding complexity

@@theoldcountry im glad i did. but yeah so many things use edge but forget to add complexity, a lot of things in vtm and wta are especially more edgier than other series, but they have a complexity and depth to them, and the edgy aspects serve to add to them, where as most series today are just kinda like "wouldnt it be cook if like, totally unnecessary gore and vulgarity for no reason" and despite being LESS edgy than things like vtm, it comes off as childish because theres next to no effort to be more than that. look at the og spawn comics which suck, and the even more gothic anime that like literally everyone loves. cause the anime DOES something with the grimness. I love the original Players Guide to the Sabbat's Path of Harmony (which was later altered) There were 2 tenets of the Path saying Do not kill Animals & People Unless you need to. Then they rewrote it. I use the original version. The new version (for me) is another Path. It is the VIA that should've been used worldwide for all vampires instead of the Road of Humanity. Also the Sabbat call humans "bloodbags". Draining a "bloodbag" dry because you are starving is not the same as going around committing murder. The original Storytellers Guide to the Sabbat talks about the original Path of Harmony being a Path you could follow the would allow you to learn/achieve Golconda,along with the Path of Power&the Inner Voice if they were less about materialism. Plus certain Sabbat Paths have Self Control Death&the Soul for example.

On the topic of the Beast and how to deal with it, i’ve had a pretty difficult time as a brand-new storyteller in trying to implement the Beast. I feel as though it’s almost absent in my sessions, but every time I try and include mentions of it, it just seems forced and obtrusive. I know logically what the Beast is and how it behaves, but i’m just at a complete loss on how to smoothly integrate it into my games; and thus i’m also at a bit of a loss on how to smoothly integrate humanity/paths into my games. The individual powers listed here seem way weaker than what a Mage in the World of Darkness can do. If you have lvl 5 of a sphere you can do near god lvl feats. It seems as an Demon or Ex Angle you are barly stronger than 13th Gen Vampire. I personally would rewrite these powers to be more or less the same but the higher end of their possibilities. Each of these powers should scream that they are powers directly passed down from the creator. With a glimpse of the divine in them but with the knowledge that they are only a glimpse of an Angel's or Demons true power.
@theoldcountry
@theoldcountry 28 күн бұрын
Oh yeah, for sure, there is no balance between the individual splats. Mages can absolutely do whatever with very little restriction (if they play it smart and get to at least sphere 4). Demon is actively going for a different vibe, though. It gives you a lot of tools right off the bat, but they cap out in power of effect quite quickly. I wouldn't compare a Fallen to a 13th gen though, because even Elder vampires are vulnerable during the day and can barely stay awake depending on their Path rating. Meanwhile, Malefactor creates a path into your haven at noon, opens your blinds... bye-bye, your Elder is now ash. I guess with WoD games it really is a matter of knowing when and where to take the fight. Always fight when it's in your advantage. If it's not... just run 😂

@theoldcountry
@theoldcountry 26 күн бұрын
@@trentking1978 I have considered it, but I don't have enough time or testers to properly test out my versions, nor do I think I have the best ideas for each Evocation. I mean, I know what worked for me and my table (4 people), the fixes that allowed us to really enjoy Demon without the mechanics actively getting in the way, but the changes we made to the game were so minor I can't really say we even changed anything too drastically. Every ST can make these tweaks according to their own taste, and well, I like to think these episodes I'm making might offer some inspiration in that regard without creating a proper digital book product on Storyteller's Vault 🤔 I know what changes I would make or already implement in my Demon games, but I'm aware these are only my takes. On the topic of Demon abilities being weaker - it's very situational. Some Lores are undoubtedly weaker, and some are so powerful, they threaten to break your chronicle before it even begins 😆Now, maybe I've grown too tired of comparing mechanics and power-levels over years of playing WoD, but I don't believe there is a balance, and I don't think there will ever be a balance between different abilities, even within the same game. I mean, can we even compare Dominate to Celerity? Can we even compare a sideways-stepping Werewolf to a Slayer using Lore of the Realms to fly through the Low Umbra? There really is no balance there, there's no balance when it comes to the damage different supernaturals can do, no balance in the way their "resists" are implemented, and no balance between the effects and potency of their superpowers, not to mention the flaws they have to live with. Some combat will happen soon in my current Demon chronicle, and it might involve Cainites, so what I can do on this occasion is let you know how it went 🤔

I find myself attracted to the order of Saint Blaze and the Loyalist. Two of the issues I’ve always had about how the Sabbat are represented include, paths of enlightenment and the treatment of their servants. I don’t understand why everyone acts as though each path of enlightened is a gateway drug to become a murder hobo. Once you read the ethics and sins of each path/road you can clearly see this isn’t the case. The Sabbat was founded on the idea of servants fighting against abusive masters. They should be well aware of what abused servants, who can walk in the day and have superpowers can do.
@theoldcountry
@theoldcountry Ай бұрын
@@bloodoftheunicorns2621 Couldn't agree more! You know, in light of your comment, maybe the next Sabbat episode will be about Paths and Book of Nod ethics 😁 Personally, I think Paths are great, they create both pluses and difficulties for protagonists, and the fact that this Sect doesn't use mortal resources/retainers as often as others, or observes bloody Ritus because it has to do it, doesn't mean it wants to murderhobo every mortal in sight 🤔 The rigors of most Paths systematically disallow wanton cruelty or murder/destruction unless clearly necessary, and to be on a Path, at least based on previous editions, you need a willpower rating of 5. Not sure if this was updated too, but I remember reading that most mortals have willpower rating between 1 and 4. Like... just transitioning to a Path requires so much effort of will already. I find it hard to believe someone with a willpower of 5 is just going to act like a child playing GTA 😄

I've thought of multiple character concepts over time: Anaphiel is a Halaku Nergal of the Reconcilers who entered the body of a comatose veteran. After the possession he became a pastor who gives funeral rites. In public he claims that his brush with death "showed him the true nature of things" and in secret he leads a group of Ghost Hunters to help Wraiths transcend because he believes the Halaku's previous decision of keeping them in the world out of fear of loss was ultimately selfish and did more harm than good. His host had an adopted daughter who mysteriously disappeared during his coma. He had been summoned in the Dark Ages before where he had started a Psuedo-Angelic cult. The second is a Dagan Reconciler named Agroloth who was once worshipped and feared in Mesoamerica as a God of Death under many different names such as Mictlantecuhtli or Ah Puch who possessed a drug-addict in the present and started a homeless movement, he regrets his past actions and seeks redemption. Hasdiel is a Ninurtu Ravener who after possessing a wealthy socialite started a druidic death-cult. She's basically a satyr poison-ivy. She had been summoned in the Dark Ages before where she had started a Demonic Lust cult in Ireland. There is the Zaltu Cryptic named Marbas who possessed a wealthy businessman and started a new age cult.

I’ve been thinking about this recently, and I wonder if Samiel is the one ultimately responsible for Saulot’s realization that everyone’s been puppeted. He was the one that, being brought up in a strict culture of kindness and pacifism, ended up choosing his own path after all. Maybe Saulot at first saw him as an amusing and convenient tool for his Baali plans, and thus encouraged him to propagate both his children and the Warrior path. But after the defeat of the Baali, and the death of Samiel, perhaps Saulot looked upon that child of his and saw the true path. Samiel (un)lived and died on his own terms, doing what he believed to be the right thing. He did not bind himself with the traditions and culture of the Healers, and at the same time he did not completely reject them. He looked around at what was around himself, and decided what he believed was the best course of action. Maybe Saulot, upon reflection after Samiel’s death and the failure of the Baali, came to realize that Samiel represented the one thing that he had been yearning for this entire time. And thus he, having been visited by the greatest of angels and the worst of demons, determined what would be the best course of action for himself, and thus became the teacher he is in the modern nights.

@@cigman777 I don't think I've found details about Saulot's bond with Samiel anywhere (at this time, at least), but damn, I hope it was just the way you described it here. 🥰 Really nice idea! If you don't mind, I'm putting this one in my own idea vault, to include in future chronicles. See? This is what I'm talking about, this is why the written lore has so many holes in it, details left undescribed and mysterious mentions: so players can make sense of/ fill in the gaps themselves. And how beautifully we try to find missing peaces and make sense of it 🥰 I don't think there have been many instances in which a Sire truly learned something due to observance of a Childe and their struggles. Most are too self-absorbed and arrogant 🙄 Tzimisce, for instance, can absorb or reform inside of its Childer at any time, should it need to, so we know it's watching, but its no less selfish and... unaffected by observing them. Perhaps Samiel's acknowledgement of the need for physical aggression in this conflict snapped some sense into Saulot. Yes, people (and this includes Kindred/Cainites) occasionally need to manifest physical aggression, maybe to prevent greater aggression, maybe to protect the ones they love. But! Said aggression can be controlled, channeled, applied when needed, without warping anyone's personality and ideals. You can USE the Beast without being a slave to it. You can use aggression and then return to peace, tranquility. The power is yours. The Baali War and this entire hell everyone is being put through now... is because Saulot never expressed that agression and anger he felt towards his Dark Father (or anyone, since he'salways been nice, calm etc.), he just represed it to the point that is poured out of him in torrents, uncontrollably, he didn't allow himself to be authentic, since he worshipped and admired Caine. Yeeees, I will agree that the observance of Samiel is probably one of the things that awakened something in Saulot and invited a change 🤔 I really enjoyed reading your comment and I think it makes a lot of sense 😉

They are really a bit similar, but not much, just like any Urban fantasy. I know that many supernaturals can have illusion abilities such as Chimerstry. But there are two kinds of illusions. The physical as the lore of light. When you use something to make it look like something else, here's the light. As well as the mental as the sphere of mind. When you manipulate someone's mind to imagine things that aren't there. Isn't that a type of mind control? So a demon is completely immune to it. Chimerstry which breed? It's strange that if you immerse yourself more in a topic, you would read an entire essay on even the smallest details.

The Selkie is from Scottish folklore. Also, the stories of heroes making pacts with spirits of the land could just as easily fit the Garou especially the Shadow Lords who have been around Romania. I remember thinking of a concept for a Tzimisce npc who existed since the Dark Medieval she used to have a pack but not anymore. She is very possessive. Evelyn Szantovich- (Clan Tzimisce/Sabbat) a 7th Generation koldun on the Path of Metamorphosis. She has clawed hands, is unnaturally muscular and stands at an abnormal height of 16 feet with an extra pair of delicate normal looking woman's arms. She has long flowing black hair, the elegant long neck of a noblewoman and would be attractive if it weren't for her horns and six extra eyes. She wears a black gothic dress custom-made to fit her stature. If she takes her clothes off it reveals an eerily smiling woman's face (just above the breasts) from a Revenant that caught her fancy and two Kindred faces (just below the breasts) from her two spouses/old pack members that she subsumed. Her height and musculature is from merging the bones, muscles and sinews of her two lovers with her own. Sometimes she wears a bra and loincloth or is completely nude. While the inside is filled with fleshcrafted architecture and bodies on examination tables in varying states of dismemberment and the floor is covered with her native soil. The haven is guarded by bloodbound Zantosa and Grimaldi Revenants with flamethrowers, maybe some Enrathi or Rafastio, Szlachta, Hellhounds, a Vozhd, zombies, wraiths and a pack of bloodbrothers. For an Elder as experienced and skilled as she is it would make sense to make her haven a Gauntlet.

How should a Tzimisce settle in a Camarilla city? Start by storming the Elysium with a Vhozd, then allow the survivors to swear allegiance to the Sword of Caine... Seriously though, I had great fun playing a Tzimisce masquerading as a Tremere, and working all the way to topple the local Prince.

@@theoldcountry Truth be told, that Chronicle has ran out of steam before we reached that stage. But I had since ran a Sabbat Chronicle set some years later in that city, and its ruling Archbishop was my previous character.

What's the difference in the eyes of a player between a show and a character when the one doing stuff in question is a GM?
@theoldcountry
@theoldcountry Ай бұрын
@@rudolphantler6309 At first? None! But when the GM has well written, complex characters and every little "show" gradually reveals a certain trait or desire or flaw of said characters, they feel so alive, the game feels so deep and rich and meaningful and exploring the NPCs themselves is just like exploring the game world and its locations. If the GM doesn't really know their NPCs, and treats them like they're just cardboard cut-outs who give quests, no depth, no desires or nothing, any display of emotion will feel shallow, transitory, without depth.

You put a lot of effort into this. Don't you ever feel your energetic enthusiasm isn't reciprocated and character personality strength is one sided?

First of all, thank you for an amazing video, it has absolutely given me stuff to think about for my upcoming campaign. There are a lot of things here that I am going to take to heart for sure! I am also going to say that I absolutely adore your videos on Clan Tzimisce their culture, the nature of koldunism and so on, the clan is one of my two favourite clans, the other one being the followers of Set which leads to my question/request namely if you could consider doing something similar for them as well digging deeper into the clan culture as a clan of faith and corruption, maybe talk a bit about serpentis and their sorocery and ideas for how to make it more interesting from a gaming and roleplaying perspective digging into its nature , culture and so on?

I really enjoyed this one! I'm hopefully going to be running a Birthright game soon, and I found the part talking about contrasting scenes very inspiring. Only two of my four players are going to be Regents, so I'll have to be working on the high and low levels of scale.

Damn, I have been watching your VtM and DtF lore vids for like 2 years now but I some how managed to miss this one. This was very informative and learning that a human's soul can be dominant over the demons in some circumstances is very interesting. I know its kind of a cliché at this point but I have always been a fan of the "inner demon" troupe, just the idea of a human stuck in a battle of wills with an immensely, powerful, eldritch demon that wants to take over thier meat suit entirely is just a really compelling troupe for me. Like will the human eventually be overpowered by the demons will, losing complete control of thier own body? Can the human and demon find some way to coexist? Or even find a way to merge thier souls together to become a singular entity? I have just always found the inner demon troupe to really be compelling despite how over played it is. It also doesn't help that a lot of characters I enjoy in pop culture also follower this troupe like Ghost Rider with Johnny Blaze being possessed by Zarathos or in Devilman with Akira being possessed by Amon and a bunch of other examples of this troupe like The Darkness comics/games, Chainsaw Man, etc. So Yeah, I think its settled that If I ever get a chance to play DtF, I would most likely play as human soul dominated Fallen lol.

@@smuggrog9821 I have a... human-dominant character in my current game. The human soul is still aware and aware that it is sharing the body with... something. It's really cool, albeit a bit difficult to pull of as storyteller, because you don't want to completely play the demon, but share it with the player. I mean the Fallen knows the Lores and can assume Apocalyptic Form, while the mortal doesn't, but if the ST is the only one playing "the Fallen symbiote", then the player doesn't really have control over their protagonist's superpowers. A bit tricky to pull off, but very much fun! 👌
