Man, you're a pioneer with this film from 1996. Pre-covid, pre-9/11, pre-youtube, pre-social media. Internet just 2 years young. Some of the last great, simpler times in America. I think I remember this blizzard as well. Yankees won their first world series since the 70's later that year.

3:35, It’s funny how a new tech train is next to an old redbird and yet the train will retire before the redbird. This is the train of the future ladies and gentleman and yet it’s been retired for nearly 25 years at this point. 😅 Also, these cars were only eight years old when they were retired and the redbird was introduced in the early 1960s and yet the ntt retired before it, crazy. 😮 They were almost the same age back in 1994 still in service as the R110As age today which have been retired since 1998 and 2000.

The reason why these were retired in 1998 and 2000 after only five and seven years of service was that they were only prototypes for the first New Technology Trains (NTT) and the design looked very similar to the R142 and R142A cars built by Bombardier and Kawasaki and were based off the design. Another reason was some cars were damaged in a derailment in either 1996 or 1997 and the MTA knew that they would have to be pulled from service also they had reliability problems and the brakes would get stuck or stall when slowing down and cause damage to the rails and wheels. Hard to believe these trains would be 30+ years old today. They’ve been converted to pump cars. The first conversions were in 2013-2014 and the others in 2023-2024. Imagine the R142 and R142A saying: Time to make way for us and get on out of here R110A and R110B, time for us to take over, your work here is done my boy. Now, 30 years later, the R211As, R211Ts and R211Ss have just entered service and are the latest subway trains of the NTT family. 1993 was the beginning of the NTTs. The R143 was ordered shortly after the R142s and 42As were ordered. The cars began delivery in late 1999 and placed into service on October 20, 2000 and November 3, 2000, three years later the last train of R33s and R36s (Worlds Fairs) would make their final run on the IRT Flushing Line 7 train on November 3, 2003. The last R142s were delivered by March 2003 and a supplementary order of 80 additional R142As were ordered in mid-2003 and delivered between 2004 and 2005, with all in service by June 2005. By October 24, 2002, all R142As would have entered passenger service. The R143 cars were ordered in late 1998 by Kawasaki (same manufacturer of the R142As) for 212 cars. The cars began delivery in September 2001 and underwent several exhaustive non-revenue tests up and down the Canarsie Line (L train) and the first set officially entered passenger service on the route on February 12, 2002. All 212 cars were delivered by March 2003. These cars and the then-brand new R160s displaced the R42s running in L service in mid-2007. These cars began running on the L in July 2007 and ran alongside the R143s. A few months after the R143s entered service, the R160s were ordered from a joint venture of companies Alstom and Kawasaki, which agreed to merge to form Kawalstom and Alkasaw, eventually later totaling to a whopping 1,662 cars of 662 Kawasaki-built R160As and 1,002 Alstom-built R160Bs. All R160A/B cars were delivered by August 2011 and all were in service by September 30, 2011. Next was R188 in 2013, then R179 in 2018 and finally the R211 in 2023.

It would be really cool if the Mets and Yankees both make it to the World Series this year and we get to see R188 and R142s wrapped in Yankees and Mets colors.

Only New Yorkers will watch the World Series! Look what the TV Ratings Are in WS, US and especiallly in Asia (Japan/Taiwan/South Korea), it was High Ratings! Japan alone has High Ratings than in '24 NBA Finals! BTW, these 2 are Bitter Rivals since then. Mets came along in 60's only, you Moron!😡

Slow E-brake performance. I see why they limited the speed on these trains. (The way they run on CBTC is full performance). They’re currently testing new brake controllers for these trains.

Hard to believe that the R110 cars are now over 30 years old even though they are pump cars now for pumping flood water out of the subway system. The first R142 cars built in 1999 are now 25 years old 😳
