@@tre-est-7314 Not the same as in real life. Train Simulator you can see it being ran on 4 tracks while in here it's still 3 tracks. Also the FL9 is paired with modern Comet coaches rather than the older Comet coaches.

Harlem 125 Street was in the middle of a massive renovation. The outbound platform out of Grand Central had yet to be renovated when this video was filmed and one track was out of service because they were replacing the viaduct.

I think they already had the Genesis P32s at the time but there didn’t happen to be any in the video. They were new at the time.

I remember riding ACMU trains being pulled by a couple of diesel engines on Huson Line in January of 1996 because of heavy snow that blanketed the region. The train cars got so packed that the engineer skipped a bunch of stations as we made our way to the GCT.

I'd have guessed diesel-electrics prohibited on the line underground into midtown.
@Lucius_Chiaraviglio5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, since they were allowed to run diesel for emergencies, they had a lot of "emergencies". I remember being in Grand Central Terminal in 1987, and it was full of diesel smoke. From what I read on rec.railroad, apparently the workers got tired of having trouble getting the diesel engines started back up when coming out of the tunnels, so they would just run diesel all the time.

Those FL9's have awesome horns! What line is the White, Blue, Red paint scheme? I love the New Haven line paint scheme especially on FL9's and P32C-DM's. Also this is literally all I know about the MTA Commuter System. Other than what lines there are (I have a map), the fact that train carry converters for Direct Currents from third rails because there prohibited from using diesel power inside the tunnel into Grand Central. I loving learning about these things so I subed too!

Those FL9s are in the Metro north scheme
@Lucius_Chiaraviglio5 жыл бұрын
They are prohibited, but they did anyway (at least in 1987 when I was in Grand Central Terminal). Supposedly trouble to get the diesel engine started back up when coming out of the tunnels.
@pietrohalle71328 жыл бұрын
Are the northbound FL9s running on electric or diesel at this point? And when do they switchover?
@Lucius_Chiaraviglio5 жыл бұрын
Running diesel, as you can hear. They are supposed to run off the 3rd rail when in the tunnels, but at least when I was in Grand Central Terminal in 1987, they ran diesel in the tunnels as well, filling the station with diesel exhaust (ackph). Reportedly this was due to trouble getting the diesel engines started back up when coming out of the tunnels.
