Have you guys noticed that everyone seems to have a different interpretation about what 60/30/10 means? How du you deal with that? Some people say the primary (60) color is the brand color, others say it's the background. Some people say the secondary (30) color is complimentary to the brand color, others say it's the brand color, again others say it's text color. Most people say the accent (10) color is meant for cta. But I've noticed it is often identical with the brand color.

Hi Michael i wanted to shoot you a message on linkedin, but couldn't find you. I read your UI book There is a page about states green=positive, red = negative But i got lashback from a developer that these are not accessible

I removed my LinkedIn account after it got hacked. I'm not on that platform anymore. As for your question: you can bump up the colors to match the current contrast ratio criteria :)

I studied Business and later pursued a qualification in Photography. During my photography studies, mobile phone cameras began to improve significantly. This shift disrupted the traditional photography landscape: fewer photographers were being hired, while influencers, bloggers, and stock images became the go-to sources for visual content. So, where did that leave me? I had two options: either pivot to a different career or adapt my approach to photography. Fast forward 11 years, and photography is far from dead. Open TikTok, Instagram, or any social platform, and you'll see that photography and video are at the core of meaningful channels-not just silly dances, but content that resonates. That said, I’m no longer a photographer. Today, I work as a Digital Marketer. For me, UX (User Experience) isn’t dead either-though it’s often been oversold. There was a time when the field attracted a wave of young professionals who thought UX was all about creating pretty designs, writing lifestyle blogs what they had for breakfast that day, finding inspiration at the beach, or sipping almond milk lattes. The reality, however, is very different. Thanks to tools like Canva and pre-made website templates, there’s less need for large teams of designers and developers. High-quality, customizable solutions are now widely accessible. It's not just the UX industry. So, why am I pursuing UX now? With my background in Digital Marketing, combining UX research and marketing is a natural fit. UX research, when done right, provides invaluable insights that can sharpen a marketer’s focus/goals & objections. My expertise in Technical SEO, Onsite SEO, and eCommerce is perfectly complemented by UX by driving improvements in conversion rate optimization and click-through optimization. Do I need to hire a UX designer for this? No. Can UX be integrated into my SEO workflow? Absolutely. We all face challenges in the tech and digital industries. While AI won’t fully replace us, it is reshaping team structures and roles. Gone are the days when you could rely solely on being creative or just a digital marketer. Today, you need technical skills-whether in automation, scripting, or another complementary area to your skillset. Just to stick to the theme, I wrote my thoughts down, and asked ChatGPT to make it make sense. Just because AI is there to use.

I'm not in the game to get max conversions through psychological tricks. Actually I dislike marketing very much. A smooth, well designed website is something I love. But function over everything. Today I had the fortune of accidently landing on a 404 page at chatgpt. It gave me chills. I'm sure somewhere in my mind this has increased my love for OpenAI. It also depends on how often you use the website. If you keep coming back like reddit or Wikipedia, it's entirely different vs checking out the yearly new product page on apple. As with everything ; it's complicated and nuanced.

While I agree with most of the things being said here, in the end it really depends on 2 most important questions: 1. What are you selling? 2. To whom? Conversion is super abstract term that might mean a lot of different things in various industries. - For example, let's imagine some new B2B SaaS product that is trying to lock customers in to the one-year contract. Some types of customers are experts in what they do and don't need much convincing. They probably researched lots of alternatives and are mostly interested in unique value of yours. Thing they might find most useful on your website might be comparison chart. - In other case, let's take a company offering services within Construction industry. Decision here are made by a lot of stakeholders, and your website is not something that will convince this group of people to invest millions of dollars into your services. In this case, testimonials and previous clients is what pushes potential customers to even give you a chance of selling your services to them. - And let's take something fun for example. Imagine m-banking app intended for teenagers. This company might benefit from having super interesting landing page, considering who is their main audience. In that case, teenagers are main stakeholders, and your job is to get them on your side, and make them advocate for you to their parents how cool and essential your app is for them. Even though you are solving problem for their parents, These are just 3 examples from my experience to show you how "rules of thumb" may vary from project to project. In the end, best designers are resourceful, and adaptive towards new challenges, and probably only 2 thing that are constant are two questions I started with.

As a LEVEL ⓺ certified designer, I can say say that mathematical approach of aligning items based on horizontal and vertical lines is not enough. 😀 If you understand how typographers let the baseline of letter v flow below the baseline, you know what I am talking about.
