Talked myself into jail one day. 18yrs old riding my brand new Kawasaki KZ650... The smartass I was at that time "1979", got me locked up after pulling a wheelie from the 7/11 parking lot onto western Avenue, while a German Shepherd was nipping at my legs, bike, etc... I should say there was no time to put the goggles down from my forehead to cover my eyes which was another violation come to find out. Now that I'm remembering this I hope One of the two police officers, (the one in the passenger seat) will recall this incident. He actually spoke of letting me off with a ticket and warning but his partner had a different suggestion. My mouth allegedly overloaded my ass and for reasons I'm still not certain were legal, I wound up in jail and my bike on a wrecker. Sad day I'm telling ya. Oh I almost forgot why I even started telling y'all this story, it's got partly to do with this song.. I'll get to the point. When I got out of jail, went and bailed out my bike from impound... Well under the seat of my Kawasaki is a tool case. Large enough allegedly to hold a small bag of Kawasaki tools and about a half ounce of smoke... ;)) it was still there too. FYI weed in 1979 for a 2 finger bag (half ounce), $5 bucks. The next part doesn't really pertain to the previous story but that Kawasaki that had a tiny paint chip on the fuel tank that was caused by a strap from the wrecker, I later found that tank on a shelf for sale in a motorcycle supply shop. Oh and before that my bike was stolen... another sad day for sure. Disco still sucks

I walked out of my hotel room in Branson many years ago and there was Jim was handing out flyers for his show - I wish I knew then what I know now about him - I would have loved to have had a more engaging personal conversation - I knew about the Hank Williams movie and Wildwood Weed, but I feel that I needed a more thorough appreciation and background to honor him properly - Same goes for several other times that I met great talents - Oh well, hindsight and pursuit of knowledge

Jim made his money doing State Fairs, and Branson was home for a while, I always felt he got pasted over. Good looking guy to. Could have been in pictures. The Entertainment industry is as evil as Hollywood !

Jim Stafford's a nice guy. My wife, daughter and I saw him in Branson (33 years ago abouts). He saw my department t-shirt and after the show he stayed and talked with us and another family until late. _WE_ had to leave because my daughter was falling asleep on her feet. I don't think I've laughed that hard since.

When Jim Stafford recorded that song and my neighbor friends and myself would gather around a transistor C battery 🔋 operated radio 📻 to listen to wildwood weed. Or we had the little CRAIG transistor radios we carried in our backpacks 🎒 that ran on a 9 volt battery 🔋. They had pull up retractable antennas & they was the size of a pack of cigarettes. Seemed all of us kids had the small transistor radios that ran on batteries back then. Who would've thought 30-35 years ago they would've came out with a device same size as the pocket transistor radio....... That has TV 📺 , Computer 🖥️, talking GPS to take place of the Road Map 🗺️ & A Radio 📻 all on 1 device Called A ( SMART CELLULAR PHONE ) ? A DEVICE RAN BY SATELLITES 🛰️ IN OUTTER SPACE SHOOTING BILLIONS OF SIGNALS DOWN TO EARTH TO TOWERS🗼INSTALLED BY CELLULAR PHONE 📱 COMPANIES AND THEN DOWN TO OUR HAND ✋ HELD CELLULAR PHONE 📱 JUST EXACTLY LIKE THE SIGNAL ⚡ STRAIGHT TO OUR TRANSISTOR RADIOS 📻 BACK THEN ?????? Nobody would've ever in a million years guessed that could've been possible when we were listening 🎧 to this song when it came out on transistor radios !!!! So here i am many years later looking this song up on a telephone 🤳📱 on the internet and listening to it on a telephone 📱 & also a computer 🖥️ !! Listening to it on a device that back then we'd have laughed at anyone if they'd told us this was going to come to pass 😂. So mindblowing 🤯 to ssy the least at the technology now compared to then, because then radio 📻 and Air television 📺 was it. There wasn't even internet or computers 💻 yet in 1974 when Jim Stafford recorded this song. But back when they played this song on the radio We thought it was hilarious 😂. Nowadays you never hear it played on the radio unless you listen to a oldies radio station and then it's usually played only when someone requested it . But they stopped playing it after Reagan took office and Nancy Reagan done her Nationwide "Just Say No to Drugs" campaign while he was in office. Her Just say no to drugs and mothers against drunk driving and other groups put pressure on many radio 📻 stations & requested they not 🚫 play music that encouraged drinking or drug use! Well us as kids and teenagers never wanted to grow 🪴 or smoke marijuana just because of this funny Jim Stafford Song "Wildwood Weed". Neither did we wanna drink from hearing Country or other genres of music that had songs that spoke of drinking or drug use. Maybe a small few did but very few done drugs or Alcohol just because they heard it on A song. But in closing, Jim Staffords Song Wildwood Weed will always be in the Top 200 Funny Classic Songs of all time.
