I was a Junior in High School when this song came out. I loved it then and I love it now. Good and fun songs never die. This song joins many others such as Bye Bye Miss American Pie. They should be honored and listed in the Country Hall of Fame.

Great song! Used to sing this when it came out, I was in like 4th grade. He misses the key change, and giggles through it. A good performer! Doesn't get rattled and holds it together. Funny guy

I love the old comedy singers like Jim Stafford and Ray Stevens. Much better than some of todays acts, js.

I wish I knew what he was chuckling about towards the end, anything that makes him laugh must be good or at least interesting on The Smothers Brothers Show! I was only a "little shaver" at the time of this show but I've grown to respect his talent. I bet he's a really great guy!
@jondunmore42682 жыл бұрын
He missed the key change, and knew that the band knew it as well. He recovered immediately though, and had a little chuckle about it. Only the band members would know what he was chuckling about. And he did it so smoothly, you didn't know what to think of it - so he succeeded.

I've got to add this to my stupid songs list. Even Jim has to laugh while singing the song. The Smothers Brothers was one of my favorite shows growing up. They were always doing crazy things on the show to make ppl laugh. ❤️🌹❤️

That is the song. I just looked up the lyrics and where your reference sings "Muskee and beans, black-eyed peas" the one I referenced sings "Skeeters knees, black-eyed peas".

Irritating ads: negative brand and product recognition takes but a moment and lasts forever. If the ads are so 'popular' and 'interesting' put them at the end of the video, you may not get as much NEGATIVE product recognition. Everyone pass this message on...

I've loved this record for years but have never seen what Jim Stafford looked like before. I'm kind of disappointed that he looks nothing like the 'hillbilly' I imagined. This live performance is also disappointing as it is really poor compared to the recorded version we are used to.

Completely disagree. I thought it was a cool live version.
