I never seed my peppers. Even when I make jalapeno jelly. Well, almost never. When I make poppers I do. Oh, and the time my dad gave me a few gallons of Serrano peppers and I made canned green chilies. After that I started wearing gloves while handling peppers. Apparently, one gallon is my limit at a time. My hands burned for three days. They had just stopped burning and he gives me two more gallons 😂 BTW, Serrano makes good jelly, too. I bet that sauce would be good mixed like Mexican restaurants make it. I've tried some that taste like ranch and jalapenos. I like the one that is probably pretty close to what you made but with cilantro. Maybe it's mixed with sour cream or something. I don't know but I like it lol😂 Mixing it with something would probably cool it down for people who like it milder.

I would Love to know how you make Jalapeno Jelly. I would think Pepper Jelly would be great poured over a brick of cream cheese and ate with crackers! Next year I plan on growing 'penos, chocolate habaneros , and Serranos. A habanero jelly would be pretty dang good I think! I tend to get a little finger heat when chopping up LOTS of 'penos for pickling or for cowboy candy but not too bad. I grew Ghost, and Moruga. They were hot. Plenty oily when you cut them open. Those I wore gloves for. I have several vacuum sealed bags in the freezer. I may have to break them out and whip something up! Thanks For the comment!
@almostoily7541 Жыл бұрын
@@24to1 I stopped making cowboy candy and instead make a relish with the brine, carrot and onion. And, of course peppers! I saw it called cowgirl relish lol I use the Ball jalapeno recipe with no bell peppers. It's 3/4 lb jalapeno, vinegar and you whizz it up in a blender. Add sugar, cook to boiling and add liquid pectin. I've used different brands of pectin and they work. I don't remember all the measurements but the recipe is online and now you can see which one I use and how easy it is. I'd think unless you want your pot and blender to melt you'd probably be better using bell pepper in the color of habanero you have and then add as many habanero as you think you'll like. Use the same proportions for the jalapeno jelly. 3/4 lb total pepper, etc. And, yes, that's exactly how I eat it. With cream cheese! I've seen some mix it in the cream cheese and use veggies like celery and bell pepper strips but I don't go to the trouble lol It was a huge seller when I had a farm stand. I had a customer tell me to call when I made a fresh batch and he'd come back every couple of weeks to get it.

@@almostoily7541 Thats very cool! I will definitely give it a try. Seems I always grow more than I can use and need to find something to do with them. I have the Ball book so maybe I oughta actually READ IT sometime🤪🤪 Thanks a lot!!!

Mustard seed is a good spice to add to pepper sauce too.

When did you add the sugar and vinegar?
@24to1 Жыл бұрын
Sugar goes in with all the rest of the spices when there is just a few minutes of Simmering left. Vinegar goes in when you blend it in the blender.

What's the name of the white potatoes you grew? I've not been able to find a while potato that grows well in the deep south, they succumb to the heat.

Mary, Thanks for asking. I got them at my local feed mill early this spring. Im going there this week and too get my Seed Garlic and I will find out for you.
@24to1 Жыл бұрын
Mary, I stopped by the Feed Mill on the way home ...Still no seed garlic😠. I did however ask about the potatoes. They were Yukon Gold. I can also tell you I grew them in last years Sweet Potato Grow Bag Soil which I manufactured. Bottom line is the soil was very loose. I think thats why they did so well. I know for sure its tough growing in plain ol' Alabama clay though. We also amended with black Kow. It was hands down the nicest soil I had out here.
@marysurbanchickengarden Жыл бұрын
@@24to1 I'm growing in raised beds mostly with nice fluffy soil and I also use black kow. I have a few winter crops growing in ground and most of that is for the chickens. They love their greens and they are so easy to grow.

Your tomatoes are done? What zone are you in. You need cats for the rats. lol Since they don't like the hot peppers you could try to liquify some and spray areas needed. Are they going to eat your potato seeds? Do you have wood ash to spread on the beds to deter the rats? Worth a try It won't change the pH. Wood ash also has calcium and natural lime and a host of other goodies. The potatoes will develop harder rather than soft and keep a whole lot longer. Good stuff is not always published on line. I doubt if rats will like walking on beds covered with wood ash. Hope you do another video with an update on the wood ash test on rats. Best of luck. I'd like to put in potatoes now. I'm in zone 6b.What is your grow zone? My Roma are still going strong.
@24to1 Жыл бұрын
Yes unfortunately they are done.....I am right on the boarder of 7a/b in Northern Alabama. I do have a barn cat running around but I think I created a safe-haven for rats by having electric mesh fencing around the garden to keep the larger creatures out....unfortunately "cat" falls into the same category as rabbit, raccoon, possum, etc .LOLOL I have a bunch of wood ash in my smokers right now. It sure wouldnt hurt to put it on my fall crops and will definitely give it a try. I think the mesh electric may have to come down as well. I have Muscovey ducks that LOVE to root around in the garden as well so that may become an issue. I swear if it isnt one thing its another. I will not give up though. this is officially WAR! LOL. Thanks for the suggestions and good luck with your fall garden!

Nope. most grew right around the top. Since these were planted in raised beds, we made sure the soil was very loose. BUt to your credit, when I told the wife it was time to harvest potatoes, she said "I'll get the shovel". I said with any luck, we wont need it and sure enough we didnt. I think it pretty much depends on the medium you use to plant them in.
