No offence intended, but the claim, that the Council of Nicea decided the current canon of the Bible, is misinformation. The canon of the Bible wasn’t discussed at the Council of Nicaea, but instead it focused on the Arian heresy, which opposed Jesus’s divinity. The rejected gospels that you brought up weren’t rejected because religious leaders didn’t like them - this is another misinformed claim; the gnostic gospels were rejected because they were proven to be forgeries. Again, I’m not trying to start anything here, but it’s so frustrating to hear these claims so often, and said with such confidence, when there is no evidence or basis for them. And if you’re put off of faith in Christ by these claims then I hope this comes as good news - they aren’t true! I pray that you reconsider your faith, but it’s your choice ultimately. God bless you.

It has got nothing to do with Power 1. The fatwa was declared by a Shia Cleric Khomeini 2. There were protests in Pakistan a Predominantly Sunni Muslim country , the protestors weren't those in Power but quite ordinary common powerless people 3. India was the first country to ban it , again because of protests , not those from people in power who were Hindus but because of the common ordinary powerless protestors belonging to the islamic faith Conclusion: those in power are blameless , it has got everything to do with the Islamic faith

The reaction that Muslims have to desecration, insult to or questioning of the Quran is an important difference between Islam and the other Abrahamic faiths. In Christianity Jesus is deemed "the word", "The way, the truth and the life", in Islam it's the Quran & the words written within it that is critical to the faith, thus Muslims take special offence to anyone attacking the Quran or their prophet.

Nothing about biblical canon was discussed or decided at the Council of Nicaea, this is a popular myth that people often repeat. Biblical canon was in flux until the first concensus across Christendom was made in the 16th century by some Bishops in England, Bart Ehrman discusses this in his books about the New Testament. Council Of Nicaea actually involved discussions and decisions on the Nature of Christ & his divinity.

The right to offend is critical in a civilised society.
Christianity isn't about controlling the masses, Christianity is following the teachings of Jesus christ,PERIOD. If men want to take advantage of that, that's not Christianity, that's immoral. And yes they chose certain gospels has the book would have been enormous, and the gospels they chose suited the minds of that time, I like how you are so DEFINET, when speaking about the bible, but when you refer to the quoran or Islam you say, MAYBE this or MAYBE that. Knowing full well you probably won't get backlash from Christians but you will get de th thr ets off islamists.

My question is what are the 67 317 so called “Employees” are doing In Facebook if they don’t even help their own clients and customers to restore their account? Their basically blocking FB to make more money by blocking ad users. It shows clearly how braindead the company actually is. THIS GUY DOESNT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT EITHER FAITH. BIBLE ACTUALLY PROPHESIZED ISLAM IN THE BOOKS OF DANIEL ISAIAH AND REVELATION. ISAIAH 14-14 TALKS ABOUT LUCIFER SIN BEING TO ASCEND ABOVE GOD. ASCEND IN HEBREW IS PRONOUNCED AS ALLAH. LUCIFER IS ALLAH. DANIEL AND REVELATION SHOWS THAT BIBLICAL ANTICHRIST IS ISLAMS MESSIAH A MAHDI/12TH IMAM AND SECOND COMMING OF JESUS IS THE ISLAMIC DAJJAL/ANTICHRIST. BIBLE ALSO STATES THAT LUCIFER CAN APPEAR AS AN ANGEL OF LIGHT. THE ANGEL OF LIGHT WAS NOT GABRIEL IT WAS LUCIFER IN THE CAVE WITH MUHAMMAD

The fatwa was issued in 1989. In 1988, the Iraq-Iran War just ended, both sides had nothing to show but a lot of dead bodies. The Iranian people were angry and asking did their sons die. They saw this book, which they never read, and used to deflect people’s attention from their incompetence. They used the book to maintain the siege mentality

Just a quick note. The Biblical canon wasn’t compiled at the council of Nicea nor was it done to control people. The council of nicea addressed the heresy of Arianism. But no doubt religion including Christianity has been used for evil (I.e. Catholicism)

a key feature of the lower side of human nature is that people have a compulsion to find a scapegoat, a person they can exercise their hatred on, and feel self-justified in doing so. It is a form of self-validation by creating an illusory enemy-character who is 'worse' than you, therefore relatively promoting yourself. The people who attacked him most likely never even read the book, just blindly followed other people's opinions, and adopted him as their scapegoat, as he was a frail elderly man in poor health, and therefore an easy target.

But you know that powerful people use religion as a tool to control others
@sandrew255Ай бұрын
In the end it all comes down to whether people should be able to talk about religion freely. Islam is not the first religion to send people to their deaths for saying things that could potentially undermine the religion. Look how catholics treated many people in the past. In the West, since the Catholic Church lost its monopoly, and people have been allowed to worship in whatever way they choose, or to not worship at all, the idea of executing someone for having an opinion is considered totally barbaric and reprehensible. In addition, we have also seen a separation of church and state. This allows many Muslims, Jews, Hindus to come to the west, continue their personal religion and have their say. This then affects how “westerners” think about Islam. If islam approves of the physical attacks on others who are not Muslim, this is seen as a bad thing. If, for example, the Church of England decided to behave in the same way, then the other religions would be suppressed and millions would be punished. We would become a theocracy, not dissimilar to Margaret Atwood book “The Handmaids Tale” Of course, the result, as we see, is that if religions in the west can’t compel people to conform to there faith, then it comes down to personal choice, and the overwhelming result of this is the decline of all religions in the West. No wonder Islams powerful leaders fight against liberalisation. Of course, not all Muslim states are the same, and not all Muslims are fundamentalists. In the west, most people think that all religions are valid - if you chose to support them, that’s your choice and right, but the flip side of this is that no one should be compelled to hold a particular belief or opinion. If a religion fails to persuade people of the truth, or benefits of being a believer in that particular faith, then that is a failing of the religious leaders, or a failing of the religion itself to convince anyone of its fundamental truth. If the inevitable outcome of allowing people to decide on which religion they wish to belong to is that a large number decide to choose “no religion” then what does that say about the religion itself? Of course, if you live in Iraq, or Egypt, you are bound by the laws of that country, and westerners visiting that country are also required to respect the laws. Quite rightly. If every fundamentalist Christian took offence at the Quran and Islamic writings and discussions regarding the death of Jesus/Isa, travelled to Iraq and attempted to assassinate the religious leaders, burn the Quran, destroy mosques etc, etc where would we be? So, how can it be right to support and encourage people to attack western writers in a western country? Say what you like, but don’t start killing people outside of your own jurisdiction. I can deplore the awful way that gay people are sometimes executed in places like Afghanistan, but I can’t force the Taliban to stop it. Our Muslim friends in the west can’t go about executing gay people, they just have to accept that in our culture being gay is not considered a crime. Westerners in general are fairly polite. We don’t think that going out of your way to offend someone is a particularly nice thing to do. Because of this, we generally condemn those who set out to do so. Whether Salman Rushdie deliberately wrote a book that he knew would offend Muslims, we can’t know. We don’t know his heart, but we can see that it might do so, and for this reason, because we don’t like to see sections of our society offended, many people consider that perhaps it wasn’t the best choice of subject. However, on the other hand, we fully support his legal right to publish it. Had the book not generated this whole furore, the chances are that it would have had a brief moment in the sun before it was generally forgotten. If Muslims had just ignored the book then many fewer Muslims would have read it. Attacking the author only leads to further critical feelings in the west, and increases the likelihood of more books of this ilk being published. How many British novelists write books that offend Buddhists, and how many Buddhists try to murder British people on British soil?

Thanks for the clear and honest review about this book. For over two decades i have not seen such clear view about the book and it's content because most videos which are available on KZbin related to the book or author are full of biasedness and hate. I agree on most of the honest things you said about the reaction of the world and how rulers used it to gain political support. There are thousands of such controversial books available all over the world but nobody cares. And even in this case, the killer was born and raised in the U.S., not to the countries which Salman Rushdie himself blamed his whole life of extremism and promoting terrorist such as Iran and Pakistan while sitting in front of the Indian audience. I subscribed you for being honest and not taking sides like other people
