I watched it back in 2015 while I was taking a Maritime Piracy course in college. My professor said “it is the most accurate representation of pirates of that era.”

Black Sails is my personal favorite Game of Thrones type show. It has better scheming than Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul does. It has better battle scenes than most shows I’ve ever watched that weren’t animated. And it is the only show that managed to make a more hatable character than Joffrey (fuck Eleanor Guthrie)

Great story, excellent acting. Clearly the writers were informed by books like Raiders and Rebels and Republic of Thieves. But they got the flavor all wrong with both the heavy emphasis on overt sexuality and the terribly anachronistic modern dialogue and attitudes. It didn't need to be a chaste period piece, but they needed to dial things back a touch, keeping it something closer to the spirit and atmosphere of Treasure Island.

Sorry, I don't like gay pirates. Which is weird, knowing half the pirates were... Flamboyant men. But no, not for me. I have an overdose of lgtbq+ flavour in everything and I´m tired of it.

fr. jerome is the best comic accurate live action joker, heath and joaqeen obv have better performances, but they arent really comic accurate, they show their own else worlds version of him. jerome clearly take some inspiration for mark hamil, heath ledger and even jack nicholson, and made the best most comic accurate portrayal of the joker to this day imo.

So I recently discovered black sails, having no idea what it really was. I was really into it at first I thought it was more based on historical pirates Recognizing all the historical names mentioned in the show. But my interest really peaked in the Last season when It finally clicked that this was something to do with Treasure Island. The older Disney treasure Islands being one of my favorite movies growing up. The ending was perfect.. I don't know if I would want them to continue As black sails. If they did, I would rather them just make a whole new segment and just call it Treasure Island. I feel like that would be more fitting.

I watched season 1 when it first was released.. then life etc And sooo many shows etc.. So it kind of fell into the background... this past couple of weeks I started over from season 1 ep 1. And made my way through the 4 seasons. Truly remarkable writing & performance.

"Do it! Quickly" "So I actually have to fight him?" "What the fuck did you think was gonna happen?" You: Almost Shakespearean dialogue. I'm gonna check out this show, but that description did not help this rather panegyric recommendation.

The Soundtrack to this show is so fucking good I daresay best TV series Soundtrack of all time... even better than most movie soundtracks

Randomly found this on store shelves a couple of years ago. Decided to try it, so glad i did. Around the same time i watched Sons Of Anarchy for the first time, i know theyre set 300 years apart but i would definitely put them in the same box for plot etc. Just amazing shows.

The Batman film gives me a similar vibe to the cartoon movie, "Batman - Mask of the Phantasm" whereas the Dark Knight feels like a Christopher Nolan film. I love both, but I felt more submersed into the world of "The Batman". I don't know they're both amazing films.

One of the best things is that it just gets better as you keep watching.

My only issue with the story is that the Jamaican prostitute girl got way too much screen time for someone so unimportant to the plot. She just kept being there and she never really was all that important except as a sexual tool to drive a wedge between Bonny and the other guy. She was just annoying.

This was absolutely a great movie if I were to give it any stars I would give it one hundred stars easy excellent movie

If I was in the UK at the showing of this show as with pinky blinders I would have enjoyed both If I could get my hand's on a box set I would watch it & enjoy 😂

Black sails. I never watch tv. Generally i just dont like the format. I devoured this show.

I am just going to say this.. as a person who has read the original Treasure Island book and have seen multiple adaptations of it to include Muppet Treasure Island 😀 I wasn’t too happy with how the ending of BSS4 went but overall a very good show to watch.

Amazing show. A bittersweet tragedy to me, as from the beginning I knew the Pirates would never win. I’ve been to Nassau. The Bahamas are now free, but it only happened 50 years ago. The fight wasn’t meaningless, but this violent story of resistance can only be told now that it is over. What once would have sparked political outrage is now artistic historical fiction. The story was compelling. Rage, freedom, and power are important themes to explore. Lots on human nature. But I think the most important is the political commentary and what it means for us today. Some people commenting clearly missed one of the main messages. *Cruelty in the name of purity and civility is still cruelty.* Even more insidious because of the mask it wears, look at Rodgers and Blackbeard. One known as an evil pirate irl just wanted a son. The governor known for restoring law and peace in real Nassau invited its total destruction and tortured Blackbeard. While this story was a twist on the truth, I will not forget the real people who died then. *The directive choices made on what was changed or added were deliberate.* I hope people got the message. I don’t care if no one reads this, but ty if you did. This show deserves more attention.

Best show of all time. Nothing compares in terms of narrative, acting, emotional resonance, or representation in historical fiction.

ALL of the characters are so fully fleshed out that it's hard when one of them is killed. I kind of got lost in their world and didnt want to come out. I felt rather flattened at the end. So I've watched the entire series twice through. I hope one day it is picked up for more seasons.

I found it interesting that both "Black Sails" and "The Last Ship" have been relatively forgotten even though both series were masterpieces that immersed people into different worlds (the past/Treasure Island and the potential future) yet dealt with longtime themes that are still relevant to this day. For example, Black Sails touched upon how the iron grip of empires can compel people to either submit or resist, with varying degrees of consequence to them, and The Last Ship tackled how society will react to cataclysmic events, whether it revert to religious fanaticism, totalitarianism, or even have people fight to retain the facets of civilization that they hold dear.

The first season seems to have been partially written by a horny teenager. Every 5 minutes is an extended sex scene. It gets better later on thankfully.

Almost made it to the 3rd season before I thought “what’s the point? I don’t even care.” I couldn’t root for any of the characters, most of them just annoyed me.
