Hollywood has a CGI Problem... The Flash (2023) is just recent example where the CGI in a modern blockbuster film became a MASSIVE problem. So that poses the question - Is CGI & modern VFX getting worse?

This is not a problem of practical vs CGI. It is a problem of directors and studios not knowing or not caring how VFX work, not giving VFX studios enough time and budget to finish the work, and running these studios and artists into the ground with constant reshoots, redos and changes that were not budgeted for because they do not know what they want until they see it. Practical effects seem to work better because they need to be prepped and planned before the day of the shoot, otherwise...there is nothing to film. You get great CGI when you plan for it as well, even if most of the work is done after filming. Simple as that.

The CGI imagery is tacky and poorly designed. There's nothing wrong with the technology - it's a failure of artistry. I don't know, maybe some people think this stuff looks good? It's not my cup of tea.

What's crazy is this movie was actually delayed a number of times... So the cgi would've been alot worse if it was out 10 months earlier 😬
