Have you guys worked your way through the batch of crappy COVID-time ICs? Replaced the charge pump and all 3 TL072s in my recent SP2 build (bought it about 4 months ago) and all is now well. Had the fizzy buzz complained about in recent forum posts.

Would it be possible to convert the internal trim pot to an external pot? I figure an A Taper 100k pot with some leads to the PCB should work just as well?
@buildyourownclone Жыл бұрын
Yes, that is possible.

Hi, this sounds great on guitar - how does this pedal hold up if you use it for bass? Any tweaks you can make to help?
@buildyourownclone Жыл бұрын
It's full frequency response, so nothing needs to be done to make it a "bass pedal".

Is it possible to mod this for a mix/intensity knob and for wider feedback range? Feedback seems to go from about 30%-60% of what I'm used to getting in some other phasers.

So these are totally authentic circuits, right? I’m chasing the Gilmour tone really thinking about getting the Ram’s head. I built the klon klone Super Pony about 2 or 3 years ago and it’s the best overdrive I’ve ever played. For 90 bucks!! I also love the smashing pumpkins, so I’m thinking of also purchasing the op amp design. For the cost of these two different fuzzes I could probably only purchase one boutique fuzz. The only advantage with those is some modern tone shaping options but that can easily be overcome with an EQ pedal and just dialing your guitar and amp in. I know fuzzes characteristically are a bit scooped in the meds and that is not a problem for me, I have a bogner Shiva. It literally has too much low mids.

I own a couple of these pedals. Love them. I actually had only used the LPB Boost module up until this evening, but recently ordered both the Fuzz and Soft Clipping modules. I built out and installed the Soft Clipping module, it’s the same as the drive section of a Tubescreamer. You can dial in the amount of drive on an internal control on the module. It sounds great by itself in the boost section of the pedal, or as a pre-boost into the main pedal. It basically makes the pedal a dual-selectable drive. Can’t wait to build out and install the fuzz, to combine with the rest of the pedal for Eric Johnson-type tones. Hoping to get tones similar to the Hermida Audio Dover Drive, which is essentially a Fuzzface combined with a Zen Drive; Dover Drives are going for at least $300 these days, so it would be great if the Crown Jewel can create those tones. I really can’t imagine another pedal being more useful or versatile. The range of great sounds you can dial in is vast.

I just got one of these pre-built/used and output seems extremely low. Is unity gain (to a Gibson '59 HB) supposed to be around 3:00-Max on the "Level" dial?

I wish it focused on how to create just a simple organic classic guitar delay rather than over the top electronic sounding music. As an electricial engineer I appreciate the technology but as a guitar player it unfortunately doesn't fit my need at all. I was hoping to find a good BYOC delay to fit my needs.
@stephen99442 жыл бұрын
Classic Delay would be what you're looking for. Why would you, an "electrical engineer" even look at a delay pedal that has modulation effect? This kind of delay has been used in thousands of recording by bands you can't peg as over-the-top-electronic sounding so are you just putting in your 2 cents to be a knob on the internet?
@audible67 Жыл бұрын
what a pointless comment. clearly it's not for you. I would figure that any electrical engineer should be able to understand that by not using the modulation stage this is a pretty standard delay. Go grab a nice analog delay and quit your Whining.

hey man, thanks for the work you do. love the large beaver i have (is there a reason for updating the design with toggle switches instead of the knob selector? i have the old version and prefer the aesthetics). btw, would if be possible to put up some vids of the color booster, im trying to decide between that and the silver pony 2... thanks!
@buildyourownclone3 жыл бұрын
The previous rotary switch was expensive and frequently out of stock. And it was confusing for a lot of people. The little set washer caused a lot of problems. The toggle switches are cheaper, readily available, and easier to work with. I don't have any plans on making a demo for the color booster at this time. I'm sure you can find other vids around here if all you want is a sound clip. There is a real love/hate relationship with the color booster. A lot of people get it because they thinks it's going to be David Gilmour in a box, and it isn't. It doesn't sound anything at all like the Klon, so if your on the fence between a Klon clone and the color booster, and you're familiar with what the Klon sounds like, the color boost probably isn't what you're looking for. I personally don't think it's a very good "ala carte" dirt pedal. But because it has a lot of gain and a 2-band baxandall EQ, it is however, very good at pushing a tube amp into distortion, giving another drive pedal a goose, and also as a sort of pre-amp.
@juzam63 жыл бұрын
@@buildyourownclone thanks for the reply! does the rotary shaft being taller than the other pots contribute to the confusion? currently my knob for the rotary switch sits a fair bit taller than other knobs, and i was wondering if there was a work around to that (apart from matching the heights by adjusting the other knobs to sit higher) i think i'll just go ahead and get both; i've listened to them both on a japanese channel, they do sound very different and i like them all

I bought a Roland Bee Gee AF-60 "fuzz box" at a yard sale for $1 back in 1979. Yup, ONE DOLLAR! That was cheap even back then. The people said it belonged to their son, but he had moved out and left it there. They said his name was David Stone, and he was the keyboard player for Oak. Now, Oak (One of A Kind) was a New England rock band that signed with Mercury records and had a small hit with "This Is Love" and later on a top 40 hit "King of the Hill" which makes them a one-hit-wonder. I played a million gigs with that Roland pedal and loved it. My ex-wife (also a guitar player) had the pedal last I knew. Hopefully it still rocks on! Guess if I wanted to replace it I could always buy the one for sale on Reverb for $600!!!!!
