You probably already know this but if 'if' was a function, all three expressions would be evaluated. You use the same syntax as the syntax for function calls but they are different in terms of when things are evaluated.

Regarding images inside emacs: sometimes I just want to paste an image, and I don't care how this image it's called. When I paste screenshots from a game I am developing, I can take 10 screenshots in 5 minutes, it's extremely annoying to first save them in right place, and then name them again in emacs. Maybe you have a simpler solution to that?

cdr stands for "contents of the destination register". Both car and cdr were named after the hardware of the computers lisp originally ran on. I can't remember if it was DEC, PDP, or what.😁

it's really odd that "car" is still called that. It's super confusing and makes reading elisp code harder than it needs to be. Why not call it "first"? It's not 1970 anymore, we've moved on.

Could you please make a video to show us how we can access emacs remotely from browser in our homelab servers using docker container? I heard about cloudmacs may be that one... That will be an awesome try! 😊🌷
@bendirval36122 жыл бұрын
These are really helpful tutorials. There is a ton of elisp help on the web but it seems to focus on unimportant stuff and waste time. Plus I get tired of people raving about how powerful elisp is when I don't see it being any more powerful than any other scripting language. The oft-derided vimscript seems to do everything elisp does, but be readable at the same time. Anyway, this nice straightforward tutorial with examples is much appreciated. I would love it if you did more.

Got GNS3 working on Void VM. Thanks for the videos, you're the one that got me started on vanilla emacs. My vanilla emacs has grown since into a massive 10,000+ line emacs config lol. I'm counting the lines in my modules (require 'my-module) as well. I want to move to void but there are things I need to figure out, like find a patched libxft-bgra to enable emojis in dwm. Will have to look into that later.

Is there a more minimal way of doing this? The repository with srcpkgs is over 520MB
@Chrono-MR2 жыл бұрын
520mb is literally nothing in 2022... it's basically a drop of water.
@pumpkinjutsu12492 жыл бұрын
@@Chrono-MR If you, for example need a small package, 520MB is a complete waste as for tracking dependencies. Name a package over that size on your system - besides professional software suites, Firefox takes up 120MB, linux in my case - 11MB. Keep in mind you need to keep deps up to date so it becomes a git clone hassle. All in all, everything in xbps-src proves superior to AUR except for the dependency tracking which in AUR's case is simply sensible.

hi, after a long time, just planned to install linux into my new laptop yet to be delivered, what a coincidence, you started uploading linux videos, kindly do more... me planning to install a [read in a manual ] debian gnu linux ( eg.ubuntu) , what's your suggestion for a noob want to learn linux more into shell scripting, automation, system administration like things?
@MatheusAugustoDaSilva2 жыл бұрын
If you're still a beginner and interested in the Debian/Ubuntu family I'd recommend Linux MInt, I'd say it's just as approachable as Ubuntu with some more features out-of-the box like backups and stuff. With that said, choosing Linux distros is a very personal matter and you can't really go wrong with any distro in the debian/ubuntu family.

@@MatheusAugustoDaSilva wow thanks for the reply, is it possible to update software packages (and dependencies... sorry spoilt by homebrew used in mac os) in linux mint os using apt-get like commands? what exactly is a rolling release os update? is that possible with linux mint?

@MatheusAugustoDaSilva2 жыл бұрын
Indeed it can. You can install on most Linux distros using your package manager (i.e. Xxx install tmux). For windows you can use it from WSL by following this article codeandkeep.com/Tmux-on-Windows/

In case someone wants to use git bash as the bash emulator, do this: Open a new session. Click the Shell button. Under Basic Shell settings, Terminal shell, select Bash (external). Then, just below that, click Advanced Shell settings. Paste the fully qualified folder path into the Distribution directory text box. ie: C:\Users\myname\AppData\Local\Programs\Git. Now click ok. That should do it.

Great idea . There are one thing that is not that good with this container, as Emacs runs as root (try run the id command). But that can be fixed, as you can change user in the Dockerfile. You should avoid to run a container as root. See kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4vWiZuAYtZ9mMU The UNAME and GNAME can be set to UNAME="$USER", unless your system doesn't use environvariables like this.

So how does xbps-install know if a package is restricted? Or it doesn't use the github repo? Where could I read more about this? I mean, where is it specified that I have to install particular package only with xbps-src?
